you have no idea the trauma that these layoffs are creating in this area. to have a company of this size shut the doors is devastating to the rv capitol of the world! where do you think 1400+ people can just "get a job"? reality is there are NO jobs in area and that is destroying the economy along with many families.

I find it sad on what's going on at Monaco plants in Indiana. Dont be surprised if they closed the other locations after September 2008.

Monaco bought Holiday Rambler in Wakarusa, IN in 1996. They were an Oregon based Mfg. with very little business experience. Their purchase was very successful because the people in the Wakarusa based corporation were hard workers & knew how to do business properly. At that point the executives at Monaco were positive that it was sucessful because they were brilliant. They purchased Beaver-Safari & that was a disaster that cost them a fortune. Then they paid way too much for R-vision & that is a disaster. I look for them to go under since they have closed Wakarusa & Elkhart. They won't have people to pull them out of trouble. As somebody said-the people in Indiana had to teach the Oregon people how to tie their shoes. I sincerely hope the people in Wakarusa & Elkhart can start over & find good jobs.

I feel real bad about so many families involved in the lay offs, but if my 07 monaco class a is the level of quality that is in all of there rv's they should be looking at something other than building motor homes.

Sounds like a CEO, someone who never had to look very hard for a job, and can afford the times between the companies they close down and the next one they want to close down. Golden parachutes all around.

And where is our fair governor while this is happening? Oh right, he only sees new jobs, never jobs lost, never happen in Indiana under his watch.

I am attending the HR Rally in Goshen. It appears Monaco is retreating to the West Coast and will abandon the East Coast completely. Stock has dropped to below 3.00 a shr. It appears the company is being set up to be sold.
