Electric cars? Where will the electricity come from? Democrats will only allow windmills. No nuclear, no coal. Just windmills. Excuse me. Turbines.

People who think a pipeline in Alaska will wreck the environment have no problem with thousands of wind turbines cluttering the countryside.

The environmentalists want all of us to go back to the 1950s when homes had no air conditioning and people walked to work down the street.
It was economics that curtailed pollution back then. With obama's plan we might just return to those days. Minimum wage was 75 cents an hour, most people didn't go on to college, manual labor jobs were the rule, and hanging out was an affordable leisure activity.

An episode of "This Old House" on Public TV last week showed a combined solar and wind powered two bedroom house that was just being built. The combined cost of the power system was $47,000. That cost doesn't include the price of a backup generator or the cost of maintenance and repairs.
Most alternative powered homes need a backup system in the event of 10 degree winters or 100 degree summers when wind and solar can't keep up with demand.
$47,000 for a power system is little more that a toy for rich people or as a conversation piece.

Um... actually the 1950s was the hayday of coal, nuclear, and combustion energy....

Democrats want NEW methods of generating power.

And not to mention, the democrats just raised the minimum wage....

What your saying is what the Republicans want.... To use old technology and to bring the wages of workers down.

Get your parties straight!

About the batteries comment..... They will do the same thing they do with batteries today! duh!

And actually, if you generate the electricity at a centralized location, it is MUCH more efficent than having 100,000 little internal combustion power generators scooting across the streets.

---

But to highlight about efficiency and design. The modern day car is one of the most antiquated designs. Corporations like this though, because they can still sell technology of the past instead of investing in the new technology.... it saves them money.

But think about this for a moment, what would be the most efficient form of producing energy, and then removing the waist?

Let's look at the most effective design ever produced..... The Human Body (No better designer than God... right?)

How different would our world be, if as Humans, we walked around spewing farts and poop with every step that we took?

That is what the current automobile does.

It's about time we improve on that design.
I mean... come on... it's almost 2010.

There is an entire thread devoted to the idiocy of the minimum wage. Check it out.

A quick lesson:
A wage is a price.
A price is an indicator of relative worth.
Arbitrarily setting the price of a good or service is akin to breaking a thermometer so it always reads a desired temperature.

The 1950s was the peak of America's industrial might, before environmental laws of the 1960s drove heavy industry from America forever. American jobs were permanently lost and industrial profits now belong to Japan and Red China. That's the major reason why Japan and China are having successful economies while ours is sinking fast. Another significant contributor to America's debt has been the conversion from home grown coal to imported oil.

The 1950s was also the era that President Eisenhower ordered that nuclear research be initiated for peaceful uses such as clean power and a vast array of medical uses.
Today's gamma ray digital imagery is a direct result of Eisenhower's vision of using military nuclear development money for civilian benefit. The Digirad gamma ray scanner is a cost effective machine that is used millions of times a year for cardiac and cancer analysis. This device eliminates expensive exploratory surgery and this same technology will soon replace mammograms to screen for breast cancer far more accurately than old fashioned X-rays.
The portable version of the Digirad machine was developed during the Bush administration and is now available for transport to your doctor's office so you don't have to go to the hospital which would be much more expensive.
The entire solid state electronics industry was an Eisenhower/military development. Computers, cell phones, electronic controls, communications & weather satellites, NASA electronics all evolved from the Eisenhower/military research and development plan.

Eisenhower was the best president and military leader that the USA has ever had.....

Have you listened to his farewell address?

In my opinion it's prob the most important farewell address ever recorded.

But to adress what your saying. Have you ever been to China? Their current manufacturing process, and their power generating process is killing them..... You literally can't walk around without having a mask over your face. Children are born with deformities because of CO2 poisoning.... many die from this pollution too.

I'm glad that the USA is not like that.

And FIY..... The Chinese economy is booming, but it's still not as dynamic as ours.

So your using a thermometer to analyze the economy?

Too funny.

That analogy only works if your getting paid minimum wage..... and your totally looking at it the wrong way.

A more accurate viewpoint is this:

The outside weather is constantly increasing (inflation) and there is a piece of tape on the thermometer that is the amount of money you make. As inflation increases, and if you don't get a raise, your by default losing money because everything now cost more and the standard of living is higher.

Minimum wage raises the bar for those at the bottom. Without it, everyone would still be getting paid cents instead of dollars. When the bottom is raised, everyone gets raised at the same time.......

More money in the pockets of the people who spend means, more money for the businesses / salesmen that sell.

My dad brought back an issued copy of Eisenhower's resignation letter as "General of the Armies" after the victory in Europe. I still have it along with my dad's WW II artifacts.

The environmentalists have been plotting against lawn mowers, ATVs, computers, and TVs for years. Lawn mowers are to be outlawed and replaced with low polluting engines. ATVs the same. Computers and TV set are to be hit with a recycling fee. Home fireplaces are to be converted to smoke scrubbing chimneys. These environmental changes will cost consumers several thousand dollars for each household.
Of course, these changes would totally wreck the American economy.
obama's new legislation will wreck the economy long before clean lawnmowers become a reality.

Democrats in control and wages are coming down. Cap and Trade won't lead to new technologies, because there will be no one left to develop them. So lets use clean technologies we already have already. Nuclear Power being one of them. You aren't going to get it if you let the Democrats tell you that its going to lead to clean technologies. Under their leadership, wages are falling. They've been in control of Congress since 2007. This is the first year wages have decreased in 23 years. 2009. Get your facts straight. The Democrats will promise you the world and never deliver but you will give them credit because of a stated intention. I rate on the outcome, not the intention.

It seems it would work that way, but that isn't how economics works. You raise wages, prices go up. No gain.

Aye hear ye, just most folks want the green benefits/opportunities served on their front door steps - at the cost of American ingenuity and innovation, such as auto and aviation playing catch up to foreign manufacturers...
