Have a heart Sgt. Rock. The story doesn't say why she quit school. Even in the 80's people endured situations where they may not have had a choice. Perhaps she lived with a single parent who was terminally sick and was the oldest of several siblings and quit to school to work instead of relying on a welfare check. We never know what someone else has gone through or is currently going through. And no I'm not some bleeding heart liberal who sees life through rose-colored glasses. However, I have experienced enough in my lifetime to know that I can't compare my hells to someone else's hells. It's comparing apples to oranges. I try to look at situations realistically and try to have compassion even for those I don't care for. For but the Grace of God, I could be in their shoes.

I once saw a presentation on stress given by a woman in her 70's. She was sharply dressed, looking as if she had just come from church. She asked us if we thought she looked like she had it together and we all said yes. She then took off her blazer and her blouse was cut into shreds. Everyone gasped, she then dropped her skirt (which also elicited many gasps!) and she had on shorts underneath, also shredded. Her point was, you rarely ever know what's going on under the packaging.

Hope you have a great day, Sgt. Rock!:)

GED's are actually more difficult to get than a high school diploma. Those who get the GED actually work quite hard to get them. They are to be saluted, not villified for not staying in school. There are many reasons a person drops out of high school, so consider that fact before you condemn those who went back to get a GED.

Back in the early '80s all one had to do was just go and pay, if my memory serves me right, which I doubt,$10 to take the five tests. Didn't have to take no classes, just find a place that gave the test. Took me 8 hours to get mine.
