The state DOT would better serve the public by taking all the shredded trees and using them as mulch to help preserve moisture for leeward highway landscape, increasing the roadside beauty and saving our limited water supply. California, a far more progressive state then HI will ever be, uses a thick layer of mulch along highways to do just that. Explaining why their highways look so green while ours are a tree cemetary.(Remember, water is very precious in CA too) For an example oh HI freeway deadscaping, I mean landscaping, leave the PH Navy Exchage (NEX), turn right to access the H1 onramp. Look to your left at the dead trees, brown/dead grass and right later on for more of the same. Ahhh yes, more Aloha from your State DOT. When will little Hawaii Nei ever join the real world?

It is a safety issue so there should be no argument. And since these are non-natives and invasive, even more reason to cut them. I would like to see them taken out completely and the area replanted with natives, maybe ohia or koa. Although they do not grow as fast, those trees are more adapted to Hawaii and the danger from falls would be lessened.

Ah, the H-3....One of if not the most beautiful scenic drives on the island.

I agree with manoamakaainana from Wahiawa. Because those invasive albizzia trees were taken down last year, we didn't have the usual problem of fallen trees along the H-2 during last December's wind storm. We had fallen trees everywhere else around the island.
