Aren't the powers-that-be at Ala Moana Center trying to make it more touristy by getting rid of Sears which sells things (e.g., appliances, garden tools) which only locals would buy?

I know this comment is about 4 to 5 years too late...lol..but just needed to put my word in just in case that "Alice" is still hanging around looking for something else to say.
I agree with your comment to Alice.
My guess, Alice does not really like being in Hawaii. For whatever reason Alice was/is here, from North Dakota - she is very welcome to return and perhaps get more educated at someplace like Minot State University. Hawaii is not meant for those wanting to seek others who understand the local culture and bond, only to trash what they love, what makes Hawaii Ohana. Perhaps a bit of insecurity of her own back in North Dakota tempted her to seek another town/city where she can bash and make fun of, in ill attempt to gain some twisted form of superiority.
Stay away Alice. Far away.

Please put me on top for all who remember Woolworths diner down stairs and there famous chicken and burgers, well I found something that brought tears to my eye's as memories flooded back to me when I went to a friends house for a family brunch when the moment I stepped in there house as his wife was cooking burgers on the indoor grill the smell of Woolworths burgers filled the air as my fathers voice came to me saying I like the coffee here, seems like you can't find it anywhere else....(I think it was Lions when they first started out and not sold in stores yet)..?.. but what made it even more powerful was when I took a bite of this memory burger and it filled the void of missing my Dad and all the trips we had there together...And now the name of this mystery memory burger is Bubba Burgers w/jalapeno...REALLY...try it, I know it's sold on base and I'm hoping outside stores also...Sam's club an whatnot...good luck finding some...Aloha (luv ya Pops)

Right on. People who go nostalgic over a shopping mall really need to get a life!
You've got to remember that when it opened, it was the biggest thing Hawaii had ever seen, and catered to local needs as well as for tourists. You could even buy a tractor from Sears if you wanted to. Try that nowadays. The other "BIG" things were out of reach for most locals. Ala Moana was the place to go and spend the day back then. Wasn't my cup of tea, but my girlfriend sure liked it. Now it's all just boutiques for the rich foreign tourists. The only other thing to do was surfing, street racing or the Drive-In Movie.

Hello Everyone!
When I visit the more up scale Ala Moana Center today 2013, I recall the way the Ala Moana Center was before all of the new additions and the all of the fond memories backstage (I was 22 years of age at the time) I had while dancing hula and Tahitian at the centerstage elated to see the stage has not been remodeled.

For those who fondly recall the good times at the "Goose"; for a brief time during 1969 - 1971, I was one of the partners who owned it. Your current governor actually used to come by during the afternoons when we first opened and would have a beer or two Many might remember me as one who occasionally tended bar, negotiated heated disputes in the back parking lot, or even spilling out onto University.
I would just like to announce that I still have the original blue goose art work, and as I 'm finding time re-creating the composite art for the original t-shirts. Both the back and front pockets as they were given away.

These t-shirts will not be knock offs of the altered copies by other owners in the mid to late 70's who copied the original 'Goose' in their own haste. The back will be large with "BLUE GOOSE" across the top and "HONOLULU" beneath the original clean, crisp goose art work.

Why don't you STFU and go back to North Dakota? Or better yet, take the Gnome and the POTUS with you and you all move to Kenya.

By the time the liberals are done, Honolulu will be just like downtown Chicago, New York, or Atlanta. Crime ridden, trashy, and unpleasant.
