Yes I remember the days of gas rationing, getting up at 4:00 am to get in line. Maybe this is a good thing. Hawaii needs to cut back on rice, too many overweight Hawaiians out there!

Yup, you're right. Just got home from Costco Iwilei. I didn't buy rice but there were less than 20 20-lb. bags of brown rice. The only rice bags I saw. I never heard of the brand before----Sun West.

The rice shortage brings back memories of past shipping strikes where people will hoard rice which is one of Hawaii's staples. I can just see people going store to store buying up the rice.
But I seen someone return rice at Costco after the strike was over.

Has anyone used the parachutes that they bought after the World Trade Center was hit by hijacked airliners or the tsunami kits that you have stored in a safe place in your home? There is no need for panic buying, there is an abundance of rice here in our isle supermarkets and the frenzy that is transpiring is just a cause of madness. Slow down, we have lots of food here in Hawaii, the mayor will not let us starve, afterall, he needs funding for his light rail project. Remember, taxation, my friends, taxation. Aloha to you all, there is a lot of rice!!!!!!!!
