Sad loss in the history of Hawaii's food culture as she and her family was an icon in the restaurant and fast food business.

She, like her husband, and their restaurants and fast food operations are and will be sorely missed.

Thank you for those wonderful restaurants..I remember KC Drive Inn and the Wistera..as a youngster growing up here i often ate at both places. They just don't make em like that anymore. Mahalo for those wonderful experiences.

I loved reading about this woman's life. It's so sad that the old landmarks are dying out.
RIP Mrs. Asato.

Just thinking about KC Drive Inn brings mist to my eyes. All those wild summer nights in Waikiki, hanging with da boys, after we came from surfing at No. 3's, including old beach boys, at the ole' Hau Tree in front of the Reef Hotel and some Haole tourist chicks, then ending up at KC's on the car service side in the wee hours of the morning, eating waffle hot dogs and drinking green river soda in my old VW station wagon with surf racks bolted onto the roof's rain gutters, with some Haole Kumu from the beach, before going to Diamond Head lookout to watch the submarines race, as my old beachboy friend Blackie Correa used to say. Then later on when I became a "straight" not in the mahu/non-mahu sense, butin the old cool/straight sense, all of those breakfast business meetings as legal counsel at the private meeting rooms at the Wisteria. Roy, the Building Trades Counsel meetings aren't the same now that the Wisteria has closed. Somehow the Plaza Club doesn't have the same ambiance.

I remember going into Waikiki's KC Driveinn after a long surf session at Kaisers..I would have a KC Hot dog with everything and a rootbeer. then I'd order me another and bring it home for my younger sister..she loved it so much. then when they closed the waikiki drive inn..I was sad and my sister was sad...So many memories. Thank You so much for all the GOOD times. You will be missed..ALOHA

Hard work and sacrifice - two traits that are foreign to many people today.

Today, many people want to work less, earn more, spend their free time on the sofa watching TV and eating chips, yet they still want to be skinny.
