Where is the Tax Queen Coleen Hanabusa? How come she is not saying anything? Could it be she is setting herself up to be appointed Chief Justice (as pointed out by Star Bulletin Reporter David Shapiro) and she wants their support. Hey these characters all took a 35% raise while the rest of us suffer!

To Michael Magaoay & Jon Karamatsu - You don't have to travel to find-out what other states are doing, especially when others are facing lay-offs and pay cuts. What's so difficult about talking by phone, video conferencing, etc.??? Do you really expect to learn anything new? If yes, please give us a detail report when you come back to Hawaii. Magaoay, you lost my vote; I'm campaigning against you.

I notice Russel Kokobun can get his okole to Philly on the taxpayer's money, but he's seldom seen around the district he represents. These career politicians need a reality check. I agree with Duzy that it's time to start pinning these elusive pols down on their lifestyle at election time. Of course when tossed out of office they just get appointed by their buddies to some make-work phony board or commission or other no-show job, still sucking on the taxpayer. Until they get their fat retirement, again on the taxpayer.

Hanabooboo said that it would be a violation of the Constitution if they refused the 36% pay increase along with an increase in expense pay, yet they then gave back 5%. Which is it? Then the taxpayer is told that this junket is necessary. Funny, I don't see where any republicans went on the trip. Couldn't have done this by video-conferencing?

Alright taxpayer, have you had enough yet of these free spending legislators, or are you going to the polls and vote them back in?

I thank the lord that these frivilous legislators don't have access to Air Force 1 or Army helicopters to cruise around in, because some of them would, Can you imagine the cost there. In this age of cyberspace travel is unnecsessary. Especially when we are financially strapped for bucks this all could have been done through video conferencing. We always say when issues such as this is released wait till election time I'll fix that little devil. This time stick to your guns and get rid of these blood suckers at election time. No fo get dis time. If anything that gets me huhu is paying for someones vacation.

I hope they all eat big greasy cheesesteak sandwiches while they are there. Cuz when they get back, we are going to cut the fat right out of the legislature and they will be first to go. These legislators are clueless. Souki got an explanation...he is too old to know better. The rest, well they just dumb.

Sad to say Magaoay is my Representative in the House. Clearly he is out of touch with a number of things relating to the budget.
He doesn't seem to understand that the same thing could have been accomplished by sending far fewer people to the mainland for this conference.
He is suffering from delusions if he thinks the legislature did a proper job on the budget. It was a useless document before the ink was dry, and the legislature knew that would be the case when preparing it. To claim they did their work is misleading to put it mildly.
Magaoay doesn't seem to understand that the legislature isn't being looked upon too kindly right now. They fumbled the budget so people are going to lose jobs or pay. Yet the legislature greedily took the 36% pay raise they say was forced upon them. Magaoay can now send his kids to private school which was his concern. Even though the dollar amounts for this trip and the pay raise are insignificant when compared to the budget deficit, it sends the wrong message to those about to lose hours or their jobs specifically and to the public in general.
Magaoay is right about one thing. They do get a lot of criticism, and in this case it is well deserved.

Lingle used our money to pay for a self promotion trip to Israel, twice,(to promote "tourism", she claimed. Getting her hooked up with AIPAC's US money machine, more likely.

But we don't talk about this around these parts, do we? ;)

Two wrongs make a right. NOT! You obviously take offense because this article criticises DEMOCRAPs. But it seems like they are the only members who went on this frivolous trip.

If a light bulb needed to be changed on Maui, 16 would go to learn and hear first-hand about how others do it. Budgeting is not rocket-science, just requires common sense, a basic grasp of numbers, and a good sense of what's right and wrong.

I don't get it. We can be across the country, discussing via conference call, the problems of the Hubble telescope BUT these IDIOT politicians, "... need to see what the other states are doing." If the people at Blackberry "needed to see" what the people at RIMM were doing, your phone would certainly cost a lot more. No credibility, no foresight and no conscious. To coin a phrase I have been reading...MEDIOCRE minds in public office.

Why would it take 15 of these folks to go to a conference and report back what they found? Does this relate to the old lightbulb joke. They should not be reelected, and all should be beaten with a stick.

These legislators view their positions as the public approval to indulge their fantasies. I wonder how many family memebers snuck along at taxpayer expense? Magaoay's willingness to accept criticizm is just another way of saying he really doesn't care what the electorate thinks. I noticed the name of my representative on the list. One more reason I will not vote for any incumbents in the upcoming election.

The legislative session is over, so supposedly these part time legislators have gone back to their regular jobs (yeah, right). So does any body know if they are drawing additional pay for going on this boondoggle as well as travel expenses?
