I feel that who ever is doing it should be responsible. If they get caught for this.they should pay for the signs and paint the graffiti that someone else did too. Have the parents be responsible to stop their child from doing this by helping out.

The notion that tagging is somehow art is absurd. Graffiti is not tagging and the blight that is plauging honolulu right now is not graffiti but tagging. The childish srawl of someone's name or nickname in black letters does not come close to the true art of graffiti witnessed in New York in the 1970s or the berlin wall. To equate the two is not just wrong, but a moral insult to the true graffiti artists

Hawaii is beautiful!Maybe on the weekends, we could get a volunteer group from local High School and Middle School students to a beautification project. Let the children take in some ownership in keeping Hawaii Beautiful. When these children hear, see or even get rumour of all the tagiing? They will tell. They will not turn their heads.I am not going to lie, I saw a beautiful Mural last year out in the Nanakuli area, displaying the HAwaiian Culture. This I call ART!. It was beautiful. It ws gone within a week. When we see Gang Bang Tagging, It remains all over, days on in.
There has to be a way to give these children, young adults ownership in the beautification of Hawaii. Some of these children are very artisitic.

Has anyone asked the taggers why they do this and what their suggestions are for giving them a way to exert their creative juices in a positive way?

I believe Phoenix had a similar graffiti problem and limited the sale of spray paints by enclosing them, like we do cigarettes here. It should only be sold to those over 21 years of age, the buyer should have to sign for receipt of the cans which should be limited in quantity and a driver's license should be required as ID. Make it difficult for them to purchase their supplies along with harsher sentences.

yall should jus put up legal walls such as around new construction and let who ever do it i garuntee less graffiti but it still wont stop the form of art i still think its wrong to write on other peoples property and do everything but agen why get mad wen they do it in places nobody sees or will ever go to such as ditches or canals out in leeward parts or under bridges why arrest them wat you should be arresting are the ones that do it in the nice beautifull places or in town where everyone sees it....true usually the ugly shit is gang related but not all graffiti is gang related

wat ever yall jus hate the movement suckas and yall buffing dont do anything it jus makes the wall clean agen for others to hit it agen hahahahah graffiti artist would be buffing spots trust me wen the place gets crowded graffiti artist will get irritated and BRING THEIR OWN BUCKET OF PAINT to clean it up

GRAFFITI IS BAD but dont pay to much attention to it cuz ive seen cops arrest artist and theres a coke dealer around the block or an ice house you guys should really be focusing on safety first keh theres to much drugs in schools and you guys jus want graffiti artist wen theres a drug dealer that could be selling to ur lil kid or young people i mean ya just because graffiti artist are easier to catch then the drug dealers doesnt mean to just shift all attention to them

most taggers do it because they like the high adrenaline that goes through their body because they know what they're doing is illegal. real graffiti artists ask the owners if they can do a job.

There is nothing more sickening than to see a truely beautiful place like Hawaii with that stupid graffiti on the buildings , don't ever allow Honolulu to look like parts of Los Angeles ! Chance the graffiti vandals in put to hard labor cleaning up their mess and that of others , 12 hours a day , 7 days a week !

people should be more appreciative of graffitti, it brings life to monotone blank walls, look on the bright side, at least the graffitti artists are drawing and not selling drugs or stealing cars and etc. worry about stuff like war, violence, prejudice, racism, cruelty, greed and coorporate evil, not about something as harmless and beautiful as graffitti

i would have to say that i agree with some of what you all say. those who do it illegaly should get punished, but there should also be outlets for these people to express their artistic feelings. Also, despite what many people think and say, Graffiti IS art. when someone expresses themselves, using whatever media they want, it is considered art. otherwise, we wouldnt be able to consider music or poetry as art. and all Graffer's are doing is expressing themselves through graffiti. Also, tagging is no the same as graffiti, tagging is just writing on the wall, while graffiti actually involves skill and talent and cant be done by just anyone. and really, illegal graffiti will probably never be completely irradicated, but alot can be done to reduce it.(i.e.Legal Walls, Murals)
