How do we create a healthy economy if we have an unhealthy population? Everyone seems to agree that there needs to be health care reform, so just do it! Why is Congress allowed to go on a four-week vacation now? I am a 2.6-year breast cancer survivor.

Not only do the unions have our legislators in thier pockets and the State in its grip, but also their rank and file. As a rank and file member, if you speak out against your union leaders, i.e., Randy Perreira, Executive Director of the HGEA, you may well find yourself out of the union and a job. Hum, I wonder how much union board members make per annium?

I have heard from some of the members in the rank and file membership of the union that they wanted the furlough but the Union Leadership refused to entertain this request.
Was the request debated or put to a vote?
If not, then I have a real issue with the Union Membership as to why wasn't it done?
The members need to check their bylaws and find out how to call an emergency meeting of the members. That way the issue could be put to a vote (by a show of hands not a oral vote), and decided by the membership and not the leadership.
If the leadership fails to do what the membership voted on and passed, then charges could be brought up against the leadership for failure to comply with the vote of the membership.
I think RICO (racketeering influenced corrupt organization) statutes apply if the vote is not upheld and needs to be reported to the US Attorney General for prosecution.
Remember, the AG needs to have evidence of the vote, and how it was not complied with.
This may be a long and slow process, but this is the only way to get out the entrenched leadership and have a union by the members.

This is pure BS. Can you name one member that was terminated for criticising their union? Anyone who has EVER (anywhere in the U.S.), for any reason, kicked out of a union? Terminations come from management, not the union. Put the blame where it belongs.

In UHPA it was. The idea that the union membership was somehow "highjacked" is about as credible as the birthers claim that Obama is Kenyan.

I can't speak for all unions but the HGEA, polled their members on the website and the vote indicated furlough. They took this information and negotiated 5% cut, how you figgah?
