STOP THE INSANITY! Hasn't our goverment learned anything from history? Does the memory of our troops fighting in the streets of Saigon escape them? Now they want our troops to go into Bagdad in the same way? For what, so we can later say oops, shouldn't have done that? Oh well, we will build another memorial in Washington! These young men and women should never have to do their time only to realize time for them stands still. Their longing to return to their families and loved ones thwarted by Iraq's politics and Washington's partnership. America did what it promised and more! It is time to bring our troops home and I believe America is beginning to realize this. This idea of keeping our troops for a longer duration only proves that our military is over stressed. The money spent on Iraq and the power of our military should be used to protect our own boarders and strenthen America. It is time for our voices to unite and STOP THE INSANITY!
It's tough for those who wait. My mother was alone for 4+years while my dad served as an army tank commander in the Pacific Theatre and went on to occupy Japan. He enlisted right after Pearl. Money was tight, food was rationed and during that time her mom died. She was alone and did her best and she had 3 kids.I honestly never heard her complain once.We all slept with her in that big bed. We walked wherever we went; gas was rationed. When he finally came home I never heard him complain or her. He resumed his life and deserved it; he told my brothers he was a better man for having served. When he came back he was involved in the forefront of the labor union wars in Minnesota. He went on to be elected president of one of the largest unions in a tri state area. He had an 8th grade education and was raised during the depression going to work on a farm at the age of 8.He was the son of german/hungarian immigrants. His whole life after the war was dedicated to truth ,justice and the American way. Yes, he was my superman. I think the army completed him. We are in a war that could last for more then 4 years; maybe 30. They are fighting for us and I love them for it. You speak of history; the fighting men of our past have brought us safely to this American place; those fighting now are carrying on a great tradition.God bless them and keep them safe; we wait.

Got a problem with extended tours of duty ? DON'T ENLIST.

Enlisted and unhappy, rape and murder civillians. Maybe do a Pat Tillman on your lead; worst you'll get is six months.

I read in Alaska where people were refusing to report for duty because they didn't agree with the war. The entitlement mentality strikes again!
These people signed up for armed forces, expecting the army to send them to school, get thier degrees and pay them, but as soon as they are asked to do something, all of a sudden they don't want to be in the army. My God, what kind of bottom feeders are these people? I hope they are all prosicuted, and made to pay the army back for any schooling or training they recieved.
As for those being forced to stay in Iraq, sorry, I sympathize with you, but you are the ones who know whats going on over there. Not like it just shift change and you go home while the next person takes over. That would be the best way to increase casulties.

Good Morning Shelly. What we have here is the same old "can I have, will you let me take, how much crowd" but when you tell them they have to pay, then they get all bent out of shape. They want it all but they don't want to pay the price for it.. Oh, they will go part of the way but they have no stomach for the long haul.

Obviously your loved one didnt explain the deployment says 12 to 16 months. Shit happens. So you give birth alone, or you this or that..lord I would rather go back to Iraq than hear a bunch of whiney family members driving big ass cars and spending their soldiers money!
Excuse me?? Where do you get off calling us whiney?? your damn right we're whiney. We were promised to have our husbands home, and that's what we deserve to have. I'd like to see you give birth, see how you take it alone you son of a bitch. Maybe you should take your head out of your ass and do us a favor and go back there so that we can have our husbands/wives/family members/friends home sooner so that we don't have to listen to a prick like you. And it doesn't matter that they told us in advance that they could be gone 12-18 months, the point is that they told us they were going to be home by now.

What an idiot. My Father served for 30 years and my Mother didn't whine. He fought in two wars, and my Mom had to raise me and my two brothers, by herself. My brother lost his life in Saudi Arabia. You need to buy a clue to what the military is and what it stands for. There are no promises, and YOU, as a wife, or Mother, come SECOND, after Uncle Sam. That is a FACT and your soldier knows that. If your soldier is a reflection of you, I hope he gets out ASAP. You are a whiny disgrace and a certainly a stupid bitch.

Both times my Dad was supposed to serve one year, in VietNam and Korea. Both times he was extended, and couldn't leave.

Deal with it. It's life in the military. A Volunteer military.

Same message/point as mine, you are just more direct. How about "we're doing just fine honey, just do your job and come home when you can." Thats a quote from a letter my mom sent to my dad before he was sent from the Phillipines to occupy Japan. Meanwhile she was trying to stretch every dollar to just make it.

As much as I hate to agree with classless people without a shred of compassion - you need to get over it.

You should have known this going in. I'm sorry for the troubles you are going through, but that's the nature of the game.

Exactly. We lived the same life. I have the same letters. We also were so poor sometimes, my Mom ate pecans and made cod (fish) balls from a small 44 cent can, for me and my brothers. She did a great job, just like your Mom. It takes strong character, it really does.

Willie, I have a funny story for you. My Dad started out as a Buck Private and went to OCS. He has lived every rank to the very top. He worked long hours. When we were in France, back in 1956, my Dad was a commander of some sort. He had men reporting to him when they got into trouble. He may have been a 1Lt or a Capt. I don't remember. Anyhow, 40 years later, retired, and back in the states he is walking out of a barber shop after getting his hair cut. A man walks up to him and says are you..so and so..and did you serve in France in so and so, and are you so and so. My Dad was perplexed, and said, Yes. The man said. " will never forget you. I had to come before you after catching a case of the clap. Your words were..How much did you pay that "w***". to give you the clap?"

Nice to be remembered, huh? True story.
