It is more important for our legislature to spend time on important issues such as declaring "Islam Day" for the 3000 or so Muslims that live in Hawaii. But if you should speak against such issues, you will be labeled by the liberal's psycho-babble as a right-wing radical opposed to everyone's universal rights. O.K. then, where is Buddha Day. You and I know there are much more than 3000 practicing Buddhists in Hawaii. Or how about Scientology Day.....you get the drift?

There's a whole litany of religions that they now need to recognize, otherwise they will be accused of favoring one over the other.

It don't get any dumber than this.

Just makes me sick to have this Democratic legislature concocting another ignoramus idea declaring Sept. 24 "Islamic Day."

How can Hawaii's electorate even conceive of electing these Demos which should really be DUMMOS as legislators representing them.

Gee, can we all wear those Talban beanies, or do we have to wrap those other funny rags around our heads that day? Can we stone any women on that occasion?

That just shows that the do nothing legislature is messing us up again. They need to have their heads examined. I'm a democrack or democrap .

The 2 republicans are right this time as usual.

Don't they have anything else to do but waste more time? Its a shame that we only have two good politicans in office which just happens to be Republicans.

Those other crack pots need to have their heads examined.

Why didn't the Senate make September 11th Islam Day? It would be easier to remember and would have greater significance.

I guess we will never confuse Peace Day and Islam Day, not those of us who have had relatives beheaded in the name of merciful Islam. Don't worry, when they have the majority, you will have the same wonderful experience.

The legislature took a 31% pay raise for this waste of time. Berg, Hanohano and Belatti introduced this bill. Now the aetheist are going to be left out again. Remember now, we as voters have to try and understand why they deserverd their pay raise but this does not quite fit the commense sense application. Why are they fussing about a bill like this when we have major budget issues for the State.

I guess after finding the answer to the US economy and the cure for cancer/AIDS the lawmakers found a little time to debate about a religion that wants them to convert to it or die.
mmmm no wonder I'm still broke

Maybe the State should get rid of any religion-based holidays including Christmas. Be entirely neutral and colorless about it.

Make the whole country bland and homogenized where there are no cultural differences whatsoever.

Why shouldn't the Legislature honor Islam? They obviously don't honor Christianity? Why shouldn't they celebrate at least one religion?

But since we are on the subject, this could be a good thing.

If the Legislature is sincere about honoring Islam, how's about:

1. Death for murderers.
2. Chopping off hands of thieves.
3. Stoning for adultery (sorry, I guess some Legislators might have a conflict of interest on that one -- cross that one off.)
4. A veil for Lingle and Hanabusa.

This could have some possibilities.

"We should not feel the need to have a special day to recognize the second largest religion in the world when we have never proclaimed a special day recognizing the largest religion in the world -- Christianity," Hemmings (R, Lanikai-Waimanalo) said.

Don't understand why the two largest religions have so much polarization amongst themselves when both prophets, Jmmanuel (falsely called Jesus Christ) and 400 years later Mohammed come from the same spirit, re-incarnated...yet both despised being "elevated" to god-like status by false and perverted teachings by the clergy of the Creational laws written in the Book of Talmud, destroyed by the Israelis in the 1970's to keep in favor with the Christians for "their" white Jewish Jesus Christ!

So yes, religions have and continue to be manipulated to suit the needs of the clergy in order to maintain the status quo of control, while the people are kept in the dark, stagnating their potential for greatness who don't need these stupid religious dogma or scriptures written by other humans to elevate themselves at the expense of others...

Must have been a slow day at the ledge. I expect Berg, Hanohano, and Bellati to be in compliance to Sharia on 9/24.
