These young men were promising and I feel very sorry for their families, and sorrier for the negative public opinion because these folks are uneducated and can't understand that death in itself is a tragedy....

Two very promising lives were lost, that's it.

No one else got hurt so leave it be and let their families heal.

And what were they promising to do? Become dead before the age of 25? They succeeded.

I was raised in Kahaluu and now reside in Waimanalo...neighbor of the family. I have found Waimanalo to be a tight community...sometimes good, sometimes not. People take care of each other. This mother is not a "welfare" case...she works hard. She does not let her children do as they please and sit by. It is offensive for others to assume things they no nothing about. Each family faces different ordeals in life. I am a full time college student and single mother of four (14,13,5,3)...and yes, they all have the same father!I started young but have ALWAYS been VERY involved in my childrens lives. We must remember that our children are not only influenced by their parents but thier peers and the media. You do your best to raise them correctly but ther comes a time when they must "find" themselves. They will rebel and test their limits. This accident is an extreme case yes, but please do not criticize them...or generalize the Hawaiian culture in a category beneath us. we are proud people...but we are human. Some learn from mistakes the first time around...some take longer. But the family is devestated...please be kind. Even well educated, high income families deal with tragedy and stupidity. We must stop putting each other down and help raise awareness and all areas of life. IMUA

It is harsh words....but maybe you should think for a second that people are fed up with these lifestyles that these guys live. Sad that they died, but THEY are the ones that lived a PILAU life. They are the ones that made horrible choices.
Do you know that the driver was partially paralyzed and couldnt really use his legs?
Does the last name sound familiar in the news recently?
So who leads the PILAU life? People should be fed up! They should comment on the choices that these guys live. Stupid. Needless. and they learn this sh*&(&*&T from their parents.
Do you know that the older paralyzed Brother wasn't the one driving? how would he be driving if his leggs don't work? Yeah the last name is familiar and so what? Rita Makekau and these two boys are not even related. Yeah people are fed up but what that other poster said is B.S. to make a joke out of ANY MOTHER LOSING her two sons is just pathetic and pilau.
