Waiainae a rough area

United States

#1 Jun 18, 2012
I moved to Nanakuli when I was 14, went to Nanaikapono Intermediate school, then on to Waianae for Jr. and Sr. year. Went to the mainland for college. Came back and forth while my parents lived there. It was a little rough growing up as a blonde headed hauli boy, but I think, no worse than it has been around most big cities here on the mainland.
When I meet folks from Hawaii on the mainland ever so often and I tell them where I lived in Hawaii, I always here the same thing "Oh you like beef ehh" In the all the time I spent in Hawaii, I had more problems in Honolulu than anywhere else. I am sure things may be different now, but there are a group of 66 Waianae grads that live on the mainland and still keep in touch, all good people, and have good memories of their ties to Waiainae. I am proud of being a 1966 graduate of Waianae High School. And I am a Hauli Boy.

Me thinks Bob is full of it. Hauli is spelled Haole. And I doubt he would have survived waianae or nanakuli schools during the 60's at the peak of the haole hate.
I grew up on in Kailua during the 60's & 70's, and even as a pro-haole town, their were their share of incidents regularly. Kill haole day was a real thing back then, not some blown out of place paranoia as the ex governor would have you believe. That's the real deal.

As for the post by "Bob" attending the west coast oahu schools, if you truly did and survived, you are my hero.
I seem to remember kids from those schools being transferred to Radford or a couple other Haole schools in Honolulu, out of concern for their well being and safety.
Nanakuli & Waianae schools during the 60's & 70's were anti-haole schools in those days.
Just the way it was brah.
