Woman Sentenced to 18 Months...
I have known Sarah Whitford since she was a child. It broke my heart to hear what had happened. When I initially spoke with her after this tragedy her remorse was and continues to be deep. She immediatley began measures of coping and placed her heartfelt remorse and guilt in the hands of God. She went to and continues in AA and speaks to individuals and groups about driving drunk and has not stopped speaking to these groups. Sarah cannot change what has happened. She can, with the help of God find forgiveness and use her experience to help others. Friends and family of Sarah Whitford continue to pray for the victim's family may we all find healing in God's grace.

How on earth can a woman convicted of negligent homicide get 18 months and another women get 10 years for embezzlement? The judicial system is skewered upside down!!!!!!!!

Sorry, Annette. I don't feel an ounce of pity for this woman. She took someone's life, and she deserves to spend so much more time in jail than the 18 months she got. What a joke. Even the max sentence of 10 years wouldn't be enough to atone for taking away someone's husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend through such a selfish act as drinking and driving. And then she claims she didn't remember! How DRUNK is that to not remember rear-ending someone??

My heart goes out to Valaile Fuiava's family.

As for Als Bar and Grill. Just be thankful that some judge had the cajones to impose that 10-year sentence on Holly Green. Everyone knows the legal system isn't perfect. I'm glad that they get it right sometimes, but its evident there's still a lot of work to be done before the "punishment fits the crime".

I sat in the courtroom yesterday when the sentence was passed down and there was no sign of remorse from Sarah. She read off of 3 or 4 sheets of paper, in a whimpering voice. Almost every sentence she spoke started with "I". Putting her guilt and remorse into the hands of GOD is great, for her own self gratification, BUT not once did she look over to the family and say "I AM SORRY FOR KILLING YOUR HUSBAND" , not once did she say, " I WAS WRONG AND KNEW FULL WELL THAT DRINKING AND DRIVING WAS WRONG. Where was her guilt and remorse to them? No, instead she came off as a well trained reader, with no feelings behind her words. Her whole speech was one that was very well practiced and executed. Joining AA and talking to people about drinking and driving is fine and well, and she will have to live the rest of her life knowing she killed someone, BUT, it was a choice SHE made when SHE got into the drivers seat after her night of drinking. True this tragedy cannot be changed, but it could have been avoided, had she used the common sense to call for a ride. No excuses for her please....for there are none.

I have no doubts about that! Funny thing is, she had no baby's father in the courtroom....and her mom is going to take the baby to care for after she gives birth. It was well orchestrated thats for sure!

This was her 2nd DUI.

Her blood alcohol content was three times the legal level for a DUI arrest an hour after she crashed her car into the back of Valaile Fuiava's motorcycle.

She didn't appear apologetic on tv.

I believe she went to AA, spoke to groups on advice of her lawyer to get a lighter sentence, and to appear repentant.

I'm sorry for the family of Valaile Fuiava.

The world lost a good man.

Driving 60-70 mph on a 25 mph speed limit road shows no regard for the lives of other people. Another example of an immature, ignorant, self centered, narcissistic, I-do-what-I-want-to-do spoiled brat that should not be on the road. Why do others who do the same things, in the same situation, get 20 years and she gets only 18 months? She needs to pay restitution to this family for the rest of her life.

is it just me? i can't stand to see people reading a typed-up "apology" that was most likely carefully worded by the defense attorney's paralegal.

how about FACING the family of the man you killed, LOOK at them ... his grieving widow, his kids, his grandkids who are crying ... and SINCERELY apologize from your heart. if you're truly remorseful, you should have no problems speaking what's in your heart. reading what's on a sheet of paper shows how cowardly sarah whitford is, and how she only cares about spending the least amount of time in jail as possible.
