Sure, the owner can transport his horses wherever he wants to. But let’s give him the same inhumane treatment: for the journey: Let’s say that Mr. Tongen is 6’2”, and he’ll only be able to stand for the whole trip, and he’ll have to maintain his balance while standing up, and everybody else is jostling him around as they’re trying to balance too. And don’t forget that the ceiling’s say, 18” shorter than he is tall but he can’t do anything but stand. Oh, and the commute is 29 hours long. That’s quite the pain in the neck, isn’t it, Mr. Tongen? Some might call it torture. The rest of us, and the DA, call it inhumane and cruel. And it needs to stop.
Support AHSPA S.311 and HR 503, the horse slaughter prevention act. Call your reps and senators in Washington and get this bill passed.

What laws did Mr. Tongen break??? As reported and still can not be found different, these were not slaughter horses. Where is the regulation/law which states that these horses can not be transported in a double decker??? If they try to prosecute what are they going to go on??? Somebody's idea of what is humane. The only problem with that is that we can all have our own opinions of what is humane, and my guess is mine doesn't match with most of yours. Where are the set standards? If there are some, I would love to see them. So good luck to you...good luck with your conviction if you try, but to me it looks like smoke in the mirrors.

Well have you heard what happened in court today? The court did not find any warrants issues to James Anderson. All charges were dropped for James and the Owner of the horses today in court. The person in the vehicle that swirved in front of the truck did not show up in court. He thanked James for what he did, because if he didn't swirve he might have killed him. What should he have done killed people or a few horses?

Anderson,
Where did you hear that all charges were dropped for both? I heard that the traffic violation was dropped, but haven't heard about the others. Do you know if it is listed somewhere? I have a personal interest in this matter. If they haven't been yet, I'm sure they will be in the future. Thanks!!!

I personally know that the charges for the citations against James were dismissed in court yesterday. But, no one can find true warrants that were issued to these two men. Was this just media hype? Lake county knows of no such warrants. Who created this story, and did Chicago Tribune investigate these warrants before printing these stories? These two men deserve huge appologies and explanations!!!!!!!!!!

It seems to me this unfortunate and tragic accident has now turned into a Salem Witch Trial. Based on the law at the time of the accident, the use of the double decker was legal as these horses were headed to a horse auction and there is no evidence found otherwise. It is a sad situation that will undoubtablly be made worse by organizations like the Humane Society. There are horrible accidents on our highways everyday, too bad they all don't get the attention this one will continue to get.
