As a horse person myself, this is a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to all those horses, and I hope those people that helped know what a deed they have done. God Bless You.

59 horses in one trailer????

This is clearly a case of animal abuse.

What did they do to the horses to get them to load into that thing? Anyone who's loaded horses knows they won't willing cram themselves in

What a tragedy. God Bless those firefighters and all the volunteers who did what needed to be done to save those horses. You folks are beyond what words can describe as the best of the best.
This tragedy could of been avoided but maybe a blessing in disguise as people of this country need to be aware of how horses are transported to the slaughter houses for destruction. The transportation methods of this kind have been going on for decades but without the general publics knowledge. Thanxs to the internet maybe some issues will be looked at more seriously if people see how horrible these mehtods are and exclaim their outrage. This must be stopped.

After watching Congress and the horse slaughter industry sweep this under the carpet for years now, I will not hold my breath waiting for anything more to be done besides a lot of empty promises and authoritative assurances that something WILL be done. If Congress wasn't stalling, this would have never happened. The USDA regularly allows all kinds of violations just like this one and no one is enforcing our laws to protect them or assure them of humane handling. The only thing that makes this story different is they got caught! Caught cramming giant horses in an itty bitty trailers because nobody cares about slaughter bound animals and what they have to endure is just sickening until the knife finally ends their suffering. Did you LISTEN to the eyewitness account that described the horses crying? But don't worry, they weren't REALLY crying, only humans do that, right?
