You are right, we do need stricter gun control. Gun control is being able to hit your target.
GOOD GUN CONTROL, Use both hands.

Absolutely! They also need to quit with the "cool" Hollywood idea of holding a handgun sideways, i.e. hand grip parallel to the ground. These folks don't understand the physics of recoil which will cause subsequent shots to go left or right of the (stationary) target depending on which hand you are shooting with. You end up either wasting ammo and increasing the possibility of inflicting collateral damage.

Why people in 2007 still don't understand people have been taught to fear all types of dogs nowadays is ludicrous. In case Hoosiers have not caught on-there are alot of folks who think a dog is better off dead if not involved in a training or rescue operation-otherwise have it on a leash so it is not considered a stray dog. Better yet, move to the country or take your dog to a nearby dog park for the exercise.
BTW-use a leash from now on with our pets is the message so our pets do not become preyed upon.
Crap happens. Maybe the granddaughter accidentally let the dog out. That would explain why she was running after the dog. I agree that people need to keep their dogs on leashes for the safety of their own pet and for the safety of others. I would imagine that these people didn't purposefully allow the dog to run free in their trigger-happy neighbors yard. This lady had to see this woman chasing the dog. Sounds like 1st degree murder to me.

This shooter is reckless and, apparently, lacking in self-control. They need to charge her with everything they can and, if convicted, give her the maximum allowable amount of prison time. People not only need to be punished for this type of "yard-rage", everybody else must see that there are very strict punishments for this type of barbaric behavior.

Yes, a tragedy. But we have yet to hear the shooter's side of it. Was she menaced by this dog in the past? I think we can assume it was no lapdog to be shooed away by flapping your apron at it. Too many people choose to keep large and possibly dangerous animals in busy city neighborhoods.
Or busy rural neighborhoods, where they don't always have leash laws.
It was a lap dog in a small town where everybody knows everybody!! This lady had threatened our family numorus time. Cops were called many times Because of her threats of shooting people and animals. NOTHING was done.

This might be the topper of the season. We're only on Black Friday and it'll be hard to find something better than this story for the rest of the year.

Dog gets loose;
Owner chases dog;
Dog runs onto neighbor's property; and,
Neighbor shoots at dog (WHY?) and hits owner.

Just terribly wrong on so many levels....

I agree! We must remove forearms from the reckless! If these crazy people did not have forearms their only option would be to kick people. While getting kicked sucks, it is far less likely to result in death. We need forearm regulation!
My apologies.
I laughed out loud at work and got people looking at me funny. Good stuff.

Are car accidents a perfect example of why "car control" is a valid issue? Falls down stairs should lead to the control of stairs? Obesity requires government "fat control"?

How very sad that a woman lost her life. What a tragedy.

Why on earth would that person even point a firearm, much less pull the trigger, when a person was in such close proximity?

Scary.

I was thinking the same thing as well. It seems too coincidental to me. Either way, very sad.

It seems the issue is always whether or not guns should be outlawed. As it's always said, "outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns". Clearly there is no easy answer. Most of the people on this post make good points about guns not being available to the reckless, but even if you had to go through courses and tests to purchase a gun, idiots will always be able to somehow get their hands on them.

Come on, you don't know the circumstances. Perhaps the dog had a lease and it slipped from her hands. The article said she was chasing the dog. How long was this dog in the yard for the woman to have time to go get a gun. What would make someone go get a gun if a dog was loose and being chased by their owner. Most people would help round up the dog. Senseless.

It sounds like this should have been handled by the police before it came to this. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Agreed. Only the military and police should have guns. Had the British imposed this on the colonies, things would have worked out so much better for the them.
I hope this idiot shooter gets the maximum punishment.
You're almost as big an idiot as Carla. If you think the Brits dont have gun crime, you've got your head in a hole (please kich your A** in and complete the job!
