Cops: Neighbor misses dog, shoots woman

A woman who was chasing her dog was fatally shot by a neighbor after the dog ran through the neighbor's property, police said.

Oh for God's sake, this is a perfect example of why gun control is a valid issue. My heart goes out to the family who lost this young woman. I don't understand why the shooter felt it was necessary to take aim at the dog to begin with. I get stray dogs in my yard frequently and I find yelling at them is usually sufficient to shoo them away, if I feel they need to be encouraged to move on. Such a senseless tragedy.

Did the gun fire itself? no it was a person who fired the shot, gun control will only put guns in the hands of criminals, this person used very bad judgement, and should pay for the deadly mistake, anyway isn't there enough laws stating you can not kill?

Normally, I would have something to say about Liberals and gun control in a story like this. I've been a gun owner and a member of NRA for most of my life, but people doing things like this shakes my belief in gun ownership for all. NOT ALL PEOPLE ARE QUALIFIED TO OWN FOREARMS! Yes, a tragedy. But we have yet to hear the shooter's side of it. Was she menaced by this dog in the past? I think we can assume it was no lapdog to be shooed away by flapping your apron at it. Too many people choose to keep large and possibly dangerous animals in busy city neighborhoods.

Or busy rural neighborhoods, where they don't always have leash laws.

If only the dog-owner would have used a leash (a.k.a common sense)-a needless tradegy could have been prevented. My condolences to the families on both sides.

Why people in 2007 still don't understand people have been taught to fear all types of dogs nowadays is ludicrous. In case Hoosiers have not caught on-there are alot of folks who think a dog is better off dead if not involved in a training or rescue operation-otherwise have it on a leash so it is not considered a stray dog. Better yet, move to the country or take your dog to a nearby dog park for the exercise.

BTW-use a leash from now on with our pets is the message so our pets do not become preyed upon.
