When I first read this story yesterday, they didn't mention that the dog was actually a Shih Tzu.

Now, I absolutely feel that the lady who fired the gun had no cause whatsoever to do so.

A lengthy prison sentence is the only adequate punishment in this matter.

Let her eat fish!

Thank God for the 2nd Amendment. Defending against Shih Tzu intrusions is exactly what our Founding Fathers had in mind when they wrote it.

Melinda, you are the reason mankind invented prison. You deserve nothing more than the pretty orange outfit you will be modeling for a long, long time. Enjoy the time away from your family, and thank you for ruining every ones holiday. You are a witch, oh, just drop the w and add the b.

I, too, imagined a large, extremely aggressive dog to be the target and a shotgun or rifle to be the weapon used. A Shih Tzu and a 357 Magnum?
Sheesh!

How does the coroner discover this and not the investigating officers? Would figure (if it actually was a ricochet) the officers would've seen the groove carved under the fence.

because they have the staff who does the investigations. the PD is just who responds to the crimes.

I know this may be hard to believe but the the police dont report to the paper, and when they do, they dont give all of the investigative details. Shocker huh? You think that everything is an episode of CSI. Do you think the coroner went to the scene ala Quincy and found the evidence? The police report all findings to the coroner. Just because it wasnt in the paper doesnt mean it didnt happen. Get outside of your box every once and a while.

On the details of the story, this woman is an idiot. She has absolutely no defense for this horrible act.

This is a tragic, stupid accident, but things like this are rare. Most gun deaths take place in the city, and victims and the perps are far from what you call rednecks. Rednecks and Christians are just the only group that it is still OK to make fun of can call names.

"The bullet from a .357-caliber Magnum pierced both the lungs and heart of Nicole Stroud, 29, Vanderburgh County Coroner Don Erk said. The Evansville woman was leaning down, trying to get her Shih Tzu dog out of a neighborÂ’s yard and through a hole in the bottom of a fence when she was shot."
This is a very sad story. The shooter has ruined her life, her family's life, as well as the grief stricken family of the victim. What could have possibly been going through the shooter's mind? Was she on crack or meth? Is she mentally ill?
What is especially sad about this and that when everything is said and done, she would have probably got more time if she killed the dog with the hog leg of a gun, the 357 mag.

Are they white? I don't know what race they are. Are there photos anywhere? I would like to see what this murderer looks like.

Wow, this lady was so disturbed by the presence of a SHIH-TZU in her yard she picks up a 357 to kill it? What a lunatic. And she's going to kill somebody's dog on Thanksgiving of all days when that person is visiting relatives for the holiday. There is no doubt this is at LEAST manslaughter. To try and kill anybody's dog just for being in your yard is ridiculous unless that dog is a threat to you or your pets. Especially if the dog is a small harmless lap dog. Now hopefully this lady will face the consequences of her act. I like the "defense" already presented in the paper that she "didn't see the owner" and the bullet just "richocheted", somehow I doubt it.Anybody who would heartlessly try and gun down a lap dog is probably somebody with severe anger problems to start with.
