They're trying to get the financial aid money

They're just going there for a check. They'll attend for a month and drop out after they get their money and do it over again the next semester. Some have no intentions of getting an education at all.

Ivy Tech and other "community colleges" know this, and this in fact is their business model. They get paid for the full semester even when these losers stop going after the first week. These places need to be investigated and regulated. They're swimming in govt money while the taxpayers lose and the dumb kids who screw their credit up or a refund check or two lose. You don't even have to take the SAT to go there, that alone should be a red flag. It's all a scam.

It's not the case for everyone, but those who are abiding the system make it hard for those who want to succeed. Ivy tech is a great step for people who want a more cost effective place to gain their core requirements that are needed to advance to a traditional university.

I saw this very often during my time at this school. It was interesting going to a class on the first day and see it have about 20 students and then a month and a half later, it's down to 10. There may be some that drop out for personal reasons than you do have the ones who get that FinAid money and leave. I used to hear people bragging about dropping out and using the money to buy new Jordans or designer stuff. I could've used that for some books.

People going to classes at the beginning & then not showing up later happens at all types of colleges & universities, not just community college or Ivy Tech. Just like everything else in this world, you have people, like me, trying to better their life by going to college and then the people who lie cheat and steal. Ivy Tech is a great school, I really like the faculty and staff. They're very helpful and I'm getting an education for a lot less than many people are paying.

welcome to a land that gives people the right to voice their opinion. if there are people abusing the system, then let them be flagged, called trash, called leeches, whatever. if it offends you, maybe you should stop using your financial aid to buy jordans or designer clothes. if you arent one of the people doing that, then shut up, because you have nothing more to say that matters. trash is trash. its very obvious that you either have no formal education, or you lack the ability to learn. the way you tried to express yourself with that "so called" thought you posted above makes it obvious that you fit the vill for people that cant read or write above the third grade level.

i base my opinion on your education solely on the structure of your thought. an educated person uses punctuation. an educated person can put focus and put complete thoughts in sentence form. you point a finger and talk trash, yet when it is turned around you whine and try to use wreckless random thoughts as attacks. if you truely are educated, maybe you should have spent more time on books and less time on sports, alcohol, or chasing tail. do yourself a favor and appreciate the fact you have opportunity for advancement. use your mind to rise above and practice your education. i labeled noone. i simply replied to your post and used what you posted and your lack of ability with the english language to form that opinion.

An educated person capitalizes the first letter at the start of a sentence.

While there are MANY white trash students the first few weeks, by the end of the semester, the real students prevail. The "real" students being the ones who are actually serious about their education. It's annoying seeing the PJ wearing, cigarette smelling losers at the beginning of the semester though...

I go to Ivy Tech and I wear sweatpants and a hoodie most of the time, does that make me trash? When I get my student loan money back I reward myself with maybe a new outfit, does that make me trash? I just don't think that any of you should judge anyone, it's not your place. I am just stating an opinion and some of you may not agree with it, whatever! To each their own. Good luck to those going to school for the right reasons keep your heads up and work for that degree :)

To the person that claims Ivy Tech is a scam and should be investigated, claiming that Ivy Tech gets paid for the whole semester even if you stop attending. ABSOLUTELY FALSE! If a student does not complete their courses over a semester, the college (ANY college) has to complete an audit. They have to look at the date of withdrawal as well as the last date of attendance in each class. After calculating all of this information, they are required by law to return the "unused" portion back to the Department of Education (i.e. the amount of time they attended classes is used, from the last date of attendance to the end of the semester is unused). The college does not keep the unused portion, they send it back and it creates a bill with the school for the student. Please have your facts straight before you open your mouth, it makes you seem less educated.

Well thanks for labeling someone who you don't even know as trash. What kind of person are you? Call me trash or whatever you want, regardless I don't care. Grow up and go get an education period! All this site for the most part does is belittle people because the person typing it hates themselves. I think you have more issues than someone who wears sweats and a hoodie to learn in.

How does one get a check for financial aid? Is it part of the loan program? I am in my second year of college and I have never heard of this. Is this something I need to check into?
