Fourteen charged in drug conspiracy
by Lacey Hampton Monroe EJ

An alleged drug conspiracy stretching from 2007 to approximately May 17 ended with the charging of 14 Anson County residents with narcotics conspiracy, armed robbery and federal firearms violations, a Monday prepared release from the United States Attorney’s Office Western District of North Carolina stated.

Allegedly, 11 of the 14 charged are part of a conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine in Union and Anson Counties, the release stated.

Cedric Little, 20, Kendrick Parsons, 28, Shaun Burns, 31, Gecoby Hailey, 24 Clayton Cadarius Kersey, 20, Duncan Ojay Borden, 29, Katrina Gould, 38, Jasmine Gatewood, 20, Paul Long, 24, Harvey Lee Sturdivant, 30, and Antonius O’Keefe Owens, 20, all of Wadesboro and Harvey Lee Sturdivant, 30 of Peachland, NC are in federal custody, the release stated. Adrian Parker, 25 and Anthony Markee Allen, 19, both of Wadesboro, are both in state custody and will later be moved to federal custody, the release stated. Robert Lamar Smith, 20 of Morven, NC has not yet been arrested, the release stated.

“They’re indicted separately, but every individual as far as the charges that we were announcing today are connected in one way or another,” Suellen Pierce, public information officer for the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Allen and Owens are alleged to be involved with an armed robbery at CQ Mart on Highway 74 in Wadesboro, the release stated. Smith faces two counts of federal firearms statutes violations, the release stated.

“Today’s indictments underscore our continuing efforts to prosecute drug conspiracies and related crimes through collaborative efforts of local, state, and federal law enforcement,” U.S. Attorney Anne M. Tompkins said in a prepared release.“The town of Wadesboro, like many small towns in our district, has struggled with the problem of crack cocaine distribution. This investigation and the resulting prosecutions will clearly impact the community in a positive way.”

Along with the indictments, on May 21, the United States filed a civil forfeiture action against a house at 982 Salisbury Street in Wadesboro, the release stated. It is alleged that since 2002, various people used the house to buy, sell and distribute controlled substances, the release stated.

It is bad on the campus. Drugs, especially reefer is sold in the halls right outside of class. Everybody knows who is dealing and sometimes they have several customers as soon as they walk in the building. I have seen people sharing a crack pipe in the restroom. If they gave random drug tests at SPCC they would find out that at least one third are on something. A lot of girls will give a BJ for a crack rock so dudes that don't do crack buy rocks to get a girl to go down on them.
