Marshville could use a Bi-Lo, a Steak House and a clothing store.

Food Lion is a joke they only stock the bare minimum of any select items and the deli is the worst stocked Ive ever seen, The meats are high priced and turn brown as soon as they put it out. The Wagon Wheel has stepped up but still is high priced, not worth the money when you can go to Golden Corral and eat for the same price and have more items to choose from. I have no problem with either of the bars as I havent seen any trouble from them except for some punk kids trying to go in and drink. We need to revitalize down town and put a variety of stores back in operation. And last but certainly not least we need a NON-RACIST NON-CONVICTED FELON for a Mayor. I believe everyone desrves a second chance in life but this clown has had way to many!

Agree w/ taxpayer, second chances are not for elected officials or persons that possible hold the purse strings of your town. Heard the new manager has a rap sheet as long as the mayors. And you people allow this b/s to happen? slumlords you speak of only concern is money. they realize they will need to put a months rent into the house each time a tenant moves, but thats all they put, and then just get another slum to live there. why not call warren every day and tell him every day what a mess he has there? sooner or later he may listen. you deserve what you get if you cant even get off your fat a$$ to make a phone call, vote or even go to a public meeting and voice your displeasure.enough complaints will make something happen. call matthew jefferson, seems he is the only one on the council with any balls to stand up to the blacks in town hall. otherwise, my surmation is marshville residents must be pigs, because pigs are one of the only animals they like to wallow in thier own $hit and that is what you all do best.

Need to go back to the '70s. Have yall been down Ross st lately, or past college st apartments? Back then you could walk all over marshville at any time of day with no thought to what might happen, now I wouldnt feel safe.

There are a lot of towns having the same kinds of problems Marshville is having. I just finished a book that declares that "MAIN STREET IS DYING!" Ask yourself why and these are the answers you will probably come up with. (1) People seldom shop in the old business district anymore. The old town business districts were built so that you could walk easily from one store to another. Most folk I know get in their car and drive to a big box store where they can get everything they need without walking from store to store. (2) Small "downtown" mom and pop type businesses have limited space and therefore limited variety. Even if their prices are as good or better because of low overhead they can't offer the same on-site selection and variety. (3) It is expensive to maintain the old buildings to make them convenient, attractive and comfortable. In nearly all situations where owners have spent a lot of money rehabilitating their buildings the ones beside or down the block are decaying relics. (4) Popular local businesses eventually close. It is rare these days for businesses to be handed down in a family from one generation to the next and continue successfully. Even rarer if the business is sold to a younger owner. People in Marshville would rather drive to Monroe or Wadesboro to shop in the big box stores than support local businesses. Marshville has the cheap rent so most of the spaces are filled with some kind of startup business, junk store or storefront church.

I believe that what Marshville needs is an identity, a reason to know where Marshville is and to come here. Branson, Mo had the same problem until someone thought to make it a country music center noiw everyone knows where it is and why you go there. Something similar could be done here since there are so many artist from the area. We need a "hook".

How about the local motorcycle shop? If they would bring in a film crew there it would be a hit.that place is more entertaining then most shows on t.v. They got Hollywood, Skooter , J.D. and a bunch of crazy customers that often go there.

We have a lot of churches in Marshville. It could become known for it's churches. There are large and small, denominational and independent. There are grand buildings and tiny storefront churches. Charleston is called the city of steeples.

Perfect opportunity to put a Randy Travis Museum here....maybe in the McBride House on S. Elm St. He is know over the world and more people have heard of him than any other person that has ever been born in Union County. People would come from all over. Marshville would be on the map!

I may be wrong but I can't see Marshville having big city franchise type businesses. We might possibly get a chain hotel and perhaps a chain restaurant or two if the Bypass ever gets built. Unfortunately for Marshville, if they get built at all they will probably end up being built in Wingate at the Austin-Chaney exit. That's going to be the hot property in the future around here. The town of Wingate and the college are making plans to turn 180 degrees and make that the new front door of both the college and the town. As far as travelers coming east on the bypass--the travel and convenience store money will have already been spent by the time they hit the Marshville town limits

A Randy Travis museum? That's ridiculous. Just plain idiotic. That would be a complete bust. Nobody cares about Randy Travis. Maybe 30 years ago, but not any more. Face it--Marshville is a nothing place. Nothing is going to draw people to this berg.

Randy Travis is enjoying Hawaii. He probably don't even remember Marshville anymore. Everyone should remember where they came from. I would like to invite him back to Marshville. Maybe, with some outside influence we can get something happening. Alot of investors are willing to start investing in Marshville but we need the bypass. That Hwy 74 E is so so not good to travel everyday. Ever thought Marshville is what it is because we the people who are in office is not doing enough for Marshville. We need sewer in Marshville. We don't need Marshville to tell us how to use our property. This is exactly what they are doing now. If they continue, I can see residents leaving and Marshville becomes a ghost town, then the people running Marshville will move down to Wingate. Maybe, Wingate should take over Marshville.
