one firefighter dies drunk, and another has cocaine in his system.

as a taxpayer, these are not the people I want to pay to come save my family.

I want someone that has their mind clear and ready to perform their work without impairments.

ANY AND ALL public employees should be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing.

Rocket j Squirrel, the problem with the current drug tests is that they can't determine if the person is "under the influence" at the time of the test. What a person does on their own time should be of no concern of ours... This is the point of privacy.
Because someone has cocaine or marijuana in their system does not mean they do not have a clear mind or that they are not ready to perform their job.
Mandatory drug testing is a violation of the right to privacy and the protection from self-incrimination.
