Middle school student arrested for gun threats

A student at Kempsville Middle School in Virginia Beach was arrested last night and charged with sending instant messages in which he threatened to bring a gun and knife to school to hurt people.

That boy is lucky to have such a friend. His common sense probably saved the kid's life not to mention the lives of others! Good job.

We live in a culture obsessed by guns. As adults we need to set the example by putting down our weapons and using our words instead.

I can't help but wonder if this child's parents were concealed carry freaks/gun nuts. He must have had access to guns somewhere.

Getting rid of guns only ensures that bad people will be the only ones that have them. I wish it were as simple as that though. I got rid of the only gun I ever had years ago but I'm thinking of getting another one for protection. I can't use a baseball bat on someone using an automatic weapon.

Juveniles are getting so mean and vicious today I think their names should always be mentioned. They want to act all big and bad, then let their names be known.

Obsessed by violence more correctly. Who knows he may have been just tossing idle threats.

Words vs. guns. Let me know how that one turns out.

I'll stick to guns. However, I think that it's ridiculous that many youths have access to their parents' guns. Parents, take responsibility for your safety and the safety of everyone in your household and take that access away! No one should even lay their hands on a gun unless they are properly trained and of legal age to own a gun. I know that many kids go hunting with their parents or whatnot but I'm not even sure I'm so comfortable with that.
