In the city of Hampton you have seen the Motor Scoter run around the streets of Hampton. The first thing that will get you attention is how they position them self in traffic. They will operate in the middle of the road, cut you off and they are running at speeds above 35 MPH. They have no helmet on which is required by VA State Law. I have call the police and they even ask if I got the license number. This statement by the police should tell you a lot about the Hampton Police and the Chief of Police. The Mayor office has told me that they have told the Hampton Police to crack down on the offenders. That was 30Days ago and this tells me that the chief of Police does not give a dammed to fix the problem.
Just to remind you that the operators of this Motors Scoter are not required to title and register them they do not pay for tags, personal property or license to use on the road in the city of Hampton and do not have insurance to operate on the road.
I got the attention of a Hampton Police Office last week and the reason was a Motors Scoter next to the police car and was in the middle of the road not to the right side where he should be driving and no helmet. I ask him did he even see the Motors Scoter. He replied yes! I then ask why he did not pull the Motor Scoter over and he said for what. I then ask did you get the word from your higher up to start stopping them for breaking the law and his reply was what law. I just look at him and walk away. He then ran over to me and asks way Iím question his job and told him to read the law then gets back with me. I have his man and badge number and will give this to the Mayor Office.

Why do I have to have a license to drive a car, if the guys on a scooter don't need one?
Why do I have to have insurance, if the scooter guys don't need it?
What's the use? The cops won't do anything, but if you go down Settler's Landing Rd doing 26mph, watch out.

Sounds to me you need to go talk with CSB. How do you find the time to worry about stupid scooters? Police go call to call and do not always have time for the little stuff.

The worst place I have ever been in Hampton is Big Bethel Rd to the county line. How you people down there take these idiots on mopeds that sound like weedwackers is beyond me. And then there are the licensed motorcycles. They ride parallel in the same lane. Reckless. Also, they use events that raises $$$ for causes, as an excuse to pollute the 7 cities. Cops are afraid to stop motorcycles for some reason. The ones I see are 59 years old and look 79.

James, read HB 97, this bill was passed and went into effect July 01, 2012. Motorcycles are now allowed to ride two abreast in the same travel lane. Vermont is now the only state this is not allowed in.

I have one of those scooters, great form of transportation until you meet up with someone like Jcray that doesn't have enough things going on in his life that he must metal into other. There are those, usually under age kids that have these thing modified to go faster and the muffler removed to make a bunch of unnecessary noise swerving around in traffic like they own the road. That's not me nor others that know the rules. Our problem comes when someone like yourself is so angry at a situation that you take your anger out on the riders of these great machine my attempting to run us off the road, cut us off at intersection that we clearly have the right away. I've seen less respect on the road with a scooter that riding my mountain bike. You rant on the taxes tags and insurance is way out there as these things are classified as a vehicle such as a bike, and can be ridden as a bike except not on the sidewalk as bikes in Hampton are allowed to stay as far away from fools in cars that give them no slack.
New laws go into effect this July that requires Scooter riders to wear a helmet and also have them registered and plated by July of 2014, an additional cost for a fuel efficient form of transportation. Next I'm sure will be taxes and insurance which I bet will still not make a person like yourself happy.
A though, in stead of complaining, why not buy one for yourself. For what it takes in gas to run down to your convenience store for a pack of smokes your could run back and forth for a month. With the money saved on gas you can afford more smokes and smoke yourself to death.

the only mopeds which should be required in my opinion to have driver's permits are those that go equally fast as cars in traffic!

I live off Aberdeen near Weaver I can set my watch by these old Blake, mostly on cheap old motorcycles. Saturday, if it's nice out,you will think u r n,the infield of Langley speedway. The noise penetration through 3 walls, the smell, then the oil, leakage. I,can, count the laps from Aberdeen at Weaver, right on Briarfield ,a Pitt stop of 10 or more at 800 Big Bethel rd(house). Sidewalk is their gas fill up, next the varoooooooom up Big Bethel, weave allover, now the home stretch of lap 1 of a 300 lap, day, a right on either Mercury,Joynes,or Weaver.....the are old 50s,60 yr olds at least. At nite, the mopeds, turn Hampton into a 3rd world ghetto,,,,call 911,,,emergency what's your emergency....only to have some women on the rag sitting on the top floor of Hampton city hall badger you...

HPD crawls Big Bethel from 1 end to the other. Many sit at the 30,mph zone between Todds & Mercury. You can haul ass on a loud cycle, but better not go 35 or the mayor and police chief will be in,a swat mobile, to give your hard working azz a tkt. In your 2008 Focus

Gee, in Newport News the police stay on top of these morons. I see them pulled. The CC engine size dictates a lot of what you need to ride one, what is needed, and the streets it is allowed. The smallest CC engines must stay on less then 35 mph, the higher the CCs? They can go to 45 , then 55. non are allowed on the Interstate.

What needs to be controlled in Hampton are those cheap imported cafe sport bikes. Those things weave at high speed, rev engines just to race to the next light. Get a group and they are a nuisance as their antics of weaving can not be anticipated. They block any movement of cars except forward, reducing any options to zero.

Once saw and idiot gun it on the James River Bridge doing at least 75 and poped a wheelie. He just about lost it when landing and almost went into the railing. No great lost if he had. It is one thing if he wants to kill himself, it is another sending a 500 pound plus machine down a road unmanned at someone else.

He went into Hampton, what a surprise.

HPD has a new chief, but nothing's changed.236 KING ST, IS THE CASH COW vis tickets. Only 5% or less fight their ticket, yet the place is wall to wall ppl. As for the City, motorcycles, mopeds, etc are a big nuisance. Several have been killed recently in accidents, which is the only way you can get rid of them
