Seems like everywhere you go online these days both buyers and sellers are complaining about bad experiences they've had with ebay. What's going on?

A look at the ebay discussion boards will scare the dickens out of you. Thread after thread of angry, dissatisfied buyers and sellers venting about their bad experiences recently with ebay, and many of them leaving ebay.

There's even a blog about the mess going on at ebay. It's on WordPress and here's the link: ebayhorrorstories.wordpress.com

This morning a major technical glitch erupted at ebay with the departure of LiveWorld. How long it will take to get this fixed remains undetermined.

Staring in 2008, ebay put into place a number of bad policies which so adversely impact small sellers as to essentially drive them away. This is BY DESIGN, as the overall strategic ebay goal is the gradual elimination of small sellers (ebay doesn't make much money off of small sellers) in favor of high volume sellers. Ebay is basically becoming another Amazon, an online virtual overstock warehouse venue. Hence the slow, steady decline of the auction format and the gradual demise of the "moms & pops".

You hit the nail on the head! E-bay raised prices on small sellers making it virtually impossible for them to make a profit. At the same time, they took away what few rights sellers had, and gave all right to the buyer.
The flawed DSR system at ebay is also driving small sellers away, whereas high volume sellers are impacted by it less severely and less quickly.

Ina Steiner at Ecommercebytes.com has written a number of good articles on ebay's flawed DSR system and how it eliminates small sellers.

By amending their user agreement so as to prevent ebay users from joining in class action lawsuits against them, ebay has essentially attempted to place themselves "above the law".

What worries me the most is all the sexually explicit adult material available for sale on ebay. I won't let my kids on there anymore.

I don't blame you I'm the same way. As a Christian with a family I can't understand why ebay wants to alienate a whole segment of the population by allowing pornographic filth to be offered up for sale on their site.

If enough churches would join together and take a stand and boycott ebay we could put an end to this.

Etsy is becoming ebay's main competition. Etsy has cut a deal with Nordstrom's that will change the internet playing field somewhat away from ebay's monopoly.

Etsy doesn't allow sellers to peddle pornographic flith on their site like ebay does either.

Ebay's latest "purge" of some 15,000 sellers last week has become a publicity nightmare.

There's some kind of insider selling case that's breaking news (you can Google it) involving an Ebay Director dumping a bunch (thousands) of shares on Wed. 8/14. Then a week later, 8/22, lo and behold Jim Cramer is advising on nationwide TV to SELL ebay stock. Jim knows something and I guess that ebay director must have known something a week earlier.

Ebay's sabotage of small sellers using Guardrail or Quick Decline to target small sellers who have a couple of low DSRs buyer OPINIONS) to implement sudden sanctions and restrictions on the small sellers has the overall net effect of placing the sellers on the fast track to elimination. Some 15,000 sellers were purged by ebay in early August, and the bad press fallout from that has been enormous.

From a recent online discussion thread: "What's bad is ebay's lack of accountability.

eBay might be allowed to limit search visibility, it's their sandbox, but...
to be legal, it's possible that they may have to TELL sellers when and if and where they will be seen, so sellers have the option of selling here or not based on evaluating what kind of service they are actually get for their store, listing, upgrade, PayPal, and final value fees

Would you pay for a movie ticket if you didn't know which movie you were going to see, if any? There's a limit to how vague a company is allowed to be, in describing their services.

This is an issue that affects all of us and some good legal minds need to delve into it to see how search visibility and ACCOUNTABILITY for visibility fits (or doesn't fit) within existing trade laws.
