When the state has a surplus, they accumulate a 'rainy day fund' what is that for? If they ask for help from the federal government why not use the 'rainy day fund' the state has set up? Why should taxes collected from un-involved states be used for Virginia? Talk about re-distribution.

To cover deficit spending, replenish misappropriated revenues from trust funds, education reductions and gv't employee bonuses.

Why sure, once Sandy leaves Pennsylvania, she'll be a New York issue. Let Jan Brewer try to protect her state from the invasion of trash from the south, then your British East African president takes her and the state to court but let a republican governor of Virginia ask for federal help and he's trashed. A hurricane blowing in off the ocean is a state issue but an invasion of trash from across the border is federal issue. You socialist sympathisers are pathetic. The trash in Aurora goes on his rampage and immediately you leftists yell gun control would have prevented it. Mc Donnell should have went to the Kremlin. Oh, he went to the American version. Vive le socialism, right, America?

Yes, Joe. You've convinced me. My neighbor just came over to borrow a cup of sugar. So I explained to him exactly how this all should work. So I guess he'll go to the store for his sugar.

Lorna Doone, please define "socialism" for me. In the famous words of Indigo Montoya - "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means"

socialism is a theory or system of social organisation that advocates the ownership and control of industry, capital, land, etc by the community as a whole.

You should provide a citation for that.

Now, explain to me how any single thing in your comment above regarding your paranoid xenophobic account of immigration, or federal disaster assistance to states has the first thing to do with community ownership of capital. If nothing in your above comments is relevant, then explain why you're bringing up socialism when its obviously not relevant to anything there - or anything else for that matter.

So lay it out for me please.

Government Motors. If you are too dense to see how socialism has incrementally crept into the American political fabric since 1912, then it ain't no use explaining anything to you nohow. Are you that ignorant you don't see taking over GM isn't akin to Hitler's dictating to ferdinand Porsche to build the vagen for the volks, than you are either too dense or one of the socialists yourself which I rather suspect the latter.

You forgot the largest social program that sucks the life out of every American.... Public schools are a social program that need to go the way of the dinosaur. This is a capitalistic country, schools should be privatized, cut our property taxes, let parents pay for schooling their children. I personally am sick of owning schools and paying for the waste in them, let a for profit company run them so that parents get the best bang for the buck. My parents sacrificed sending me to a private school, and trust me they struggled, but I got a better education because of it.

Another piece of socialism are the public libraries, they essentially take the food out of authors mouths, they 'loan' books to people. Get rid of the libraries, and if you want to read a book, BUY it.

Giving you time to refute the last post, furthermore do you expect me to believe an American Constitutional president is going to appoint socialists and communists to czar posts behind the presidency. As appointees of republican and democrat presidents are either republican or democrat, I would expect socialist and communist appointees to indicate, at the very least, a socialist president. I realise you ain't gonna agree but frankly scarlett I don't give a hoot. The hoot is in honour of my friend, Mr Owl.

Yeah, Joe, how right you are. This John Dewey federal government dumbing down system is all part of the scheme begun in 1912 to bring about the socalisation of the US. Two things socialist and communist systems need are the disarming and the dumbing down of the people. Armed and educated people are dangerous to communist and socialist governemts. The Kremlin, Golden Palace and Ha Noi learned this early.

The government does not own GM nor did it "take it over" as a means of capturing value for the nation. It owned some of GM's stock - which in a corporate capitalist economy is not odd. All sort of organizations own stocks in others.

That's not to say that I was in favor of actions re: the auto industry or not. That's irrelevant. It just wasn't socialism.

But I see that you added "since 1912." Well, that pretty much leaves the current administration out of it. So you can get off of all of that.

If you want the only honest interpretation possible of the growth of giant govt over the course of the 20th century, it was the only way to save capitalism - and it remains so. When the corporate capitalist global economy makes massive, massive messes - as it inevitably does - its the state's job to take the heat. Of course, the only way to take the heat is by pressure on taxes. So its one more way that very large business corporations pass their negative externalities onto the public at large. Public schooling is another one. Its the place where the public takes on the costs of training the industrial labor army. That's why its dumbing down. When you look at the gubmint and cuss, peer behind the curtain sometime.

But, alas, none of it is "socialist." You provided the definition yourself.

Pick out the parts you want to answer. Neglect the appointing of the socialist and communist appointees to the czar positions. You are saying the government did not take over Government Motors and give to the unionists. Being you, Tired of it, pick out the points you want to address and use the ploy of keeping the enemy on the defensive, I refuse to conduct this debate with you marxist, as of now I will pick out what I want to discuss with you marxist. Tired of it the marxist. You have your socialist day, marxist tired of it and I will be glad when the likes of you, marxist tired of it, and the despiser of the Constitution in the WH have your very own socialist nation. But, alas, all of it is socialist. I provided the definition myself.

Along with privatizing schools and libraries, how about police and fire protection by subscription. And make the sheriff of your county the law of the land. He could be be judge, jury, jailer and executioner.

On a lighter note, the government's purchase of preferred stock in GM is hardly socialist.

At this point its pretty clear that you are either drunk or insane or both.

Even Marx declared that he wasn't a Marxist, by the way. Of course, no one would know why since almost no one that references Marx has actually every read Marx. We live in a place where people are so pitifully uneducated that they think something like "socialism" is the opposite of "democracy" and where people think that corporate capitalism is the same thing as market economics and where people have their lives destroyed everyday by corporate capitalism and then blame it on government.

And on the thing about pitiful eduction, the problems of our educational system aren't that they are public per se. The problem is that they were set up long ago to train people to be good little soldiers in an industrial economy that no longer exists. Part and parcel of that is worship of a system that they are then not taught to understand. Privatizing them will not help. It will make a multitude of things worse. If you want to know what killed that dreamy, mythical U.S. of the constitutionalists, don't look at the government. That's not what killed it.

I forgot to ask. Who are the alleged socialist and communist czars?

And remind me again - what does any of this have to do with xenophobic border paranoia or states asking for federal disaster assistance?

Oh right, I forgot. Nothing. Drunk and insane.

Joe of Palmyra, I thought you were a Constitutionalist but that part, He could be judge, jury, jailer and executioner, causes me to believe you are joshing, ploying, toying. Your sentence, the government's purchase of preferred stock in GM is hardly socialist, is correct except for one word, hardly. The sentence should read, the government's purchase of preferred stock in GM is socialist. Could it be Joe of Palmyra and the Earleysville flash be the same person? Hmmmm Good day to the both of you!
