I was the 16th patient to receive Proton Therapy for Prostate Cancer at the UFPTI facility in Jacksonville FL. Making the decision to receive this type of treatment was the best decision that I have made in my entire life. Since receiving Proton Treatments, I have not had any adverse side effects. I was so impressed with the treatments, that as my gift to UFPTI I have created a web-site,FloridaBOB.org to help spread the word about Proton Therapy and inform prospective cancer patients of the benefits of Proton Therapy as opposed to other forms of treatment. The web-site has testimonials from past patients about their experiences at UFPTI.

I'm from Virginia Beach and work at the University of Florida Proton Therapy Center for IBA (The company that provides the equipment), and I'm very excited to see my home town getting this technology. Seeing our patients come in for treatment and then be able to leave and play golf is a joy. The greatest part of my job is watching children who seemingly have nothing to look forward to gain a new lease on life. Hampton Roads is indeed fortunate to be receiving this center.

The worst news of my life came in August of 2007 when I was diagnosed with Cancer (Prostate). Unfortunately, we seldom prepare for cancer, because it always happen to someone else. The second worst news was that surgery could cure it, but with unwanted side-effects. The best news was when I discovered FLORIDA PROTON INSTITUE (with no assistance from my urologist). I completed the eight weeks of treatments and came through, stronger, healthier, more relaxed, with no adverse side-effects (except for a little guilt for not having the sad face and sickly appearance that friends and family expected upon returning home) All that I could show were a healthier appearance, a positive attitude, and a wonderful testimony regarding the experience of the personal touch and care by all of the staff and patients at UFPTTI and the friendly community of Jacksonville Florida. Co-workers and friends are still amazed that I could return to full workload a week after returning home (I needed a week to catch up on the mail and stuff). I believe this form of treatment should be one of the options given to all prostate cancer patients.
