Great idea!!! Just wish the govenment would step in and do the right thing. They can regulate other prices why not gas and drugs????? They want us to get the money flow going maybe they sould try getting more jobs back in America so many of us can meet our bills and not have to use credit all the times to make ends meet. Giving us money to help the money flow is not the answer and borrowing from China. Does anyone eles see that as just WRONG!

This is dumb. They make it sound like you got a great deal, when you got jack.
If it was 99 cents, I would say that it was a good deal. But 3.65? Come on.

I am surprised that there hasn't been a large scale boycott of gas. The truckers tried it once, but the impact of having a no drive day would send ripples through the petroleum economy. Of course it wouldn't work unless employers had no work day, and everyone participated, then the no work day would cause layoff's etc... and now we really are in a recession.......
What if the gas stations didn't sell fuel for a day?????? let the pump owners send the message to big oil?

I still think we should drill ANWR, Off the East Coast, and invade Russia for their oil

Note to the homies: Only car-jack cars leaving the gas pumps, not pulling in!

I agree with DAllen, gas at even $3.65 isn't a good price. It just sounds good because we are getting use to paying almost $4.00/gal. Yes it HELPS the cheaper we can get it but it's not CHEAP. And if you have to drive so far to get it, you may as well get it at $4.00/gal. You'll spend what your "saving" to drive to that gas station in VA Beach. You may as well just fill up at the nearest gas station no matter what price it is. I am a stay at home mom and have been for 21/2 years. I now have to go to work part time in the evenings because we are starting to stuggle.

Why can't companies do that in Norfolk? Do you not care about your drivers as well?

it shouldnt even have to come to the point where gas stations have to do promos and compete. I remember being in high school and bein able to grab a hand full of quarters from my brother crown royal bag and having gas for weeks and it has quadrupled since then

The whole point of the free trade system is that companies SHOULD compete for your business. If they didn't have to compete (kinda like Cox Communications throughout most of the HR area) they can just charge whatever they want and continually increase their prices, since you have no place else to get the product/service.
Generally, having the government step in is a bad idea: the oil companies (by and large) are publicly traded. Some of the stock is held by people who work at the company (especially those in management), some is held by individuals, some is held by other companies, some is held by mutual funds. All those investors invested with risk/rewards in mind. For years the return wasn't all that great, when prices were low and competition was high. Now the folks that bought that stock are making a killing.(Unfortunately *I'm* NOT one of them!) So, say you put money in your 401(k) and part of the fund is in oil stocks... you're 401(k) is making lots of money right now. Should the government be able to take that away from you?
Unfortunately the government was actually rewarding people for buying big gas guzzling SUVs a few years ago in bigger write-offs for bigger vehicles. I've always chosen to drive fuel-efficient cars, so the extra $50 bucks a month in gas isn't that hard to swallow.
There are ways to deal with it. Ride share to work. Don't make unnecessary trips. Bundle your errands. Take extra weight out of your car. Check and adjust the air pressure in your tires. Make sure you've got a clean air filter, and get a tune up if you need it.
Folks outside Hampton Roads who frequently suggest walking to the store, or taking public transportation don't understand how spread out we are, or how bad our bus system is (bad because it can't possible cover most of the region).
Since the oil companies are making record profits, there are some things the government should do, specifically TAKE AWAY THE TAX PERKS offered to the oil companies.
