What is with so many people in etown tipping shitty if not anything at all? I mean do they think servers make miniumn wage or what? Do they have any idea servers make 2.13 an hour. Dont get me wrong alot of people in etown tip me very well. But personally i think i am a server that always tries my hardest to take care of my customer. But what is up with people going to resturants and ordering food and getting good service and still not tipping? Do they think servers work for the fun of it? What are ya'lls thoughts?

Who cares what servers are paid? I don't ask stuff like that. When I go to a place of business, I expect that the employees are being paid by their EMPLOYERS. I pay my check, then I'm done. If you don't like what you're being paid, talk to your boss or quit, but don't expect people to give you extra money just because your EMPLOYER doesn't pay you enough.
Seriously, when I'm done eating, I say "check, please". Then a bill is brought to me. That bill shows what I owe, and I pay it. Why would you expect to be given money for yourself, when the check says I just owe $2.29 for my frickin' mountain dew,$11.59 for my fish and ugly rice or whatever, and $4.39 for my soup OR salad or whatever. I pay the combined total of $18.27, I'm done. Squared up. I don't tip the nurses at the hospital who help the Dr. with my surgeries. I don't tip the guys at the grocery store who stocked the shelves in a way that made finding what I needed easier. I don't tip the guys at the grocery store who go out and round up all the carts that I didn't feel like pushing ALL the way back into the store when I was done with them. Their EMPLOYER pays them. I just pay my tab.

Well employers pay are responsible for 2.13 of a servers pay while they are expected to make at least miniumn wage with tips. And its not extra money, servers are not beggers. We work for tips, plain and simple. Also 80% of servers are made up by single mothers with a highschool education. Nurses have much mroe than a highschool education and make much better money. You may not think you have to tip and you dont, thats why its call gratuity. Why would you even go out to eat if your not going to leave a tip. 15% is a nice thing to see on a table when you get up and leave and we have to clean up your mess. And i see where your coming from tho, saying the employer should be paying us to serve. NO problem there i see that because that is what is done in European countries. But thats not the way it is here. So tipping would be nice of you, some kids are workign their way though college and others are just trying to provide for their families.

i am all about giving tips where deserved but when you say that --Also 80% of servers are made up by single mothers with a highschool education. Nurses have much mroe than a highschool education and make much better money. that is not our fault 9of10 times you could get finacial aid and especially if you are a single mother..i have done both go to school and work and i have two children..it is about bettering yourself not mooping around and feeling sorry for yourself because you have a H.S. education..you can find better jobs you just have to put effort into it!

and to the other person---that is a good point pay your bill and have employers pay the rest..good way of thinking of it

apparently the other two a**holes on here have never had to work as a server. They both sound like f-ing jerks and I think if I knew who they were I would spit in their damn food. Denny G is probably a g d banker and the other idiot prob doesnt work. People in this area like the two f ing inbred a holes live beyond their means. They have a 50 thous dollar car, name brand clothes, and a house that they cant afford so they have no extra money to tip anyone. I have worked as a server and delivered pizza for extra money. I now fortunately have a good job and dont have to work both. I am a single parent and have raised my kids without any help from the state because I chose to do what I had to do to make it. If people choose to eat where they are served then they should tip plain and simple other wise go to a g damn drive thru or keep your tight wad a** at home. I admire you for doing what you do. If it wasnt for servers a sit down resturaunt just wouldnt be the same. Dont listen to these a holes. F ing idiots.

Good Lord thank you for seeing where i'm coming from. And yes i do believe tipping is where it is due. If you get good service you should tip. If you get shitty service than maybe you should leave less than what you would. I'm just saying if you dont tip why would you go out to eat in the 1st place? I mean if you become a regular at a resturant and people know you dont tip then your not gonna get good service because why would they waste their time on you? And i know single mothers can now go to college easier than before. But the fact is at that period of time they haven't or they are still in school working through. And its not a hand out. Its what they work for. I"m in college right now personally. I work two jobs as well. But i also do not have any kids to take up any spare time. I'm just trying to state with this discussion what is with people that dont tip? I mean IKNOWYOURBUSINESS at least said its due when its worked for, in so many words. And i said maybe employers should pay min wage. But Right now it is 2.13 an hour, and tips are a way of making a life.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. You know what? I do tip when I go out to eat. I do understand about all of that. But I also know that since people are not required to tip, then that tip money really should be 'extra', and the servers should already be making a wage that pays for their time. Servers can not rely on tips. period. If that doesn't seem agreeable to someone, then they should not be taking a job serving. period. It doesn't make any difference in this discussion that a lot of servers are single parents with a high school (or equivalant) education. Tip money is money that can not be counted on, so they really shouldn't be counting on that, now should they?
If you want to raise the awareness of people in e-town, and encourage them to tip the service more, then this thread is going to accomplish very, very very, little in that regard. You need to be able to remind people of this every time that they actually go into a restaraunt, beat it into their heads while they are there, with vocal reminders, signs stating the facts, pictures of worn-out and haggard single mothers, PSA style propaganda to get people to tip more. But I don't think that restaraunt owners would be very agreeable to those kind of tactics.
If no one was willing to work for $2.13 +(???) then restaraunt owners would be forced to pay people actual wages. So don't only question why people in e-town tip shittily, but also think about organizing the workforce to change the situation. E-town diners have to pay the already premium price of the food they eat, plus the restaraunt food tax, and then are EXPECTED to tip the servers. In my opinion, the question of why servers don't make more money is not just about why people don't tip more.
Yes I intentionally was sounding 'like an arse', but the original post in this thread sounds a bit whiny and presumptive and I was attempting to balance that a bit with another perspective. People who spit or otherwise mess with peoples food deserve grievous bodily harm, by the way, and I don't care if it's my food or someone else's, I would pay those people back with more than a little saliva! So it's better for you that we don't know who the other is, JustAME, wouldn't you say?

Not only is your spelling bad, But i find it hard to believe that you would leave a 50.00 tip. With these times who can afford it? It is a hard job being a server. Have you ever thought that just maybe some customers have snotty attitudes and think that you should break your back for them? I have seen how servers get treated and it is sad.

I have bartended at the same place for almost 4 years now and I work Monday thru Thursday and I usually know how much to expect to make each week I have a big regular customer base they come to see me every week when they could spend $3 less a beer right down the street but they know that they will get great service at my bar! I have a child who i support by myself and i live a very nice life most weeks i bring home more money then my managers and work a third of the hours. When i go out i dont care if i had to wait an hour for my food and it was cold if my sever did a good job i would tip him/her 20% if they had a shitty attitude i wouldnt leave them a penny and let the manager know. servers are tipped our taxes come out of our hourly wage we make.
