Anyone know anything about the white long haired lady who pushes a yellow grocery cart around town piled high with belongings? I saw her this morning asleep sitting in front of the antique store downtown etown. Appears homeless. In need of shelter?

I also saw her sleeping at that table in front of the antique store. I ran into her at the new dollar store that they just built last week. I don't know her story but it can't be good with her sleeping on the street. I feel bad and want to help but I don't know what I could do to help her. It looks like we need a place for these ppl to go.

It is very sad. I have done some checking to possibly get her some help. Area churches will help and pay for motel rooms. Unfortunately if there is mental illness involved the motels won't take them. The process starts with police stopping and investigating her situation. There should be cause since she's sleeping on the street. I hope she gets help before winter.

She's has a house in West Point but chooses to walk the streets of Etown.

She's been banned from several local restaurants for harassing people. She asks for money, then gets mean if people say no. She is actually quite a nuisance.

That's good to know. She needs to go home. I'll quit being concerned if she is on the street by choice

her name is Hazle. We have gotten her a hotel room a couple of times. She is obviously unbalanced. She likes banana moonpies if you want to do something nice for her. Yes she does claim to be from the west point community. Seems nice enough and harmless.

Hazel is from West Point. She was evicted from her home a while back, and she has been kicked out of all of the hotels. The street is better than those hotels anyway! She is very mentally ill, and refuses to go back to West Point. She claims to have court coming up and has to stay here for that. E-town has no resource's for someone like her, so she walks the streets. She has been for a long time, and has already survived a winter here. Stop and talk to her, she is nice, but she will talk your ears off... She seems to be stuck in the past. She has children and several ex-husbands... ask her about them, she will gladly tell you. Sadly she does not know where her children are, and they apparently have nothing to do with her. That is common when people have whatever she has.

Can't Communicare help her? Surely there's a place for mentally I'll people, especially in L'ville.

Shame on the person that called her a nuisance! I hope you never lose your faculties

Communicare is a JOKE! They only help those that don't really need help! Unless someone states that they want to hurt themselves or someone else they will not take them involuntarily. Hazel wouldn't hurt anyone.

i have 2 people living with me right now that is down on their luck. we have banks that have foreclosed on people for falling on bad times and letting houses sit empty or tearing them down. we live in a country where in some counties it is a crime to feed the homeless. its sad its easier to arrest someone than it is to try to do a little public outreach and help the situation.

i have seriously considered trying to get funding from private or government means to try to help people like this lady in question. because i realize i to one day could be in her place and would like to think someone would help me.

No one can help those who won't help themselves. She chooses to live like she does. Sad but true.

True. Hazel chooses to live this way. She will accept food and other things from you, but she will not accept anything else. A shelter would not allow her to stay because she is a trouble maker because of her attitude, and if she doesn't get her way she will throw a fit. If you talk to her you will see.

She is happy just how things are, so why make her go to some nasty state run nursing home, or mental institution. Sometimes there is nothing that can be done, and leaving her alone is the best thing for her.

She is not a threat to anyone, and to this point she is able to fend for herself.

keep telling yourself that. and if you ever end up on the street lets hope the people that are talking about trying to help you do not share the same mindset as you.
