Is there any truth to the story that the sheriff is running an unlicensed security business? I can't seem to get a straight answer from those I have asked.

Well, that's interesting. Had not heard that, but it appears as though he does have a business called Vanmor Agency or somehing like that. A check of the state's professional licensing database doesn't show the required license for the business. So, it would appear he has a bit of a problem.

Mike Morris is partnered with Doug Vantlin in a security business if I remember correctly.

Brian Hagen also started a security business a couple of years ago.

I know all three of these guys and I would find it hard to believe any of them would run an unlicensed security business. I think Mike Morris and Doug Vantlin have the Duke Energy security contract at the plant and many of the Knox County officers and jailers work there on their days off. I would imagine Duke Energy would have validated their credentials before contracting with them.

Just looked at the online license database and no license appears in the company name or in the name of either Morris or Vantlin.

Not sure about Hagen as I don't have a company name to search on.

The database only shows one Knox county based company that is licensed. That is owned by Louis Caprino.

Lucy, you got alotta 'splainin to do!

Did a little digging on this yesterday. Me thinks the Sheriff has a real problem on his hands with this....... and potentially all those who worked for him if he treated them as sub-contractors rather than employees.

Vanmor LLC is a registered business with the state of Indiana. Check with the sec. of states office !! All emp. are part time employees.

Instead of worrying about others,
maybe you should look a little
at your own life.
I bet you find some flaws
to which you can improve.

Yes, it is a registered limited liability company with the Indiana Secretary of State, however, it does NOT have the required license from the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency's Private Investigator & Security Guard Licensing Board.( http://www.in.gov/pla/pisg.htm )

It's good to hear the people working for the company are actual "employees" with all applicable taxes being withheld rather than independent contractors with 1099's being issued. That will help protect them.

With all of the time that some people apparently put into checking on all of this....I'm thinking that there might be some type of political interest. One would think that if there was a problem, then it would involve more than just a few people on a random gossip site....give it up...If you have that much time, then do some volunteer work somewhere...something productive!

Actually, it didn't take much time at all. Probably 30-45 seconds of searching a couple of online state databases. Not really sure what you mean by some type of political interest. And yes, I do volunteer. I probably donate 200 hours per year to various charitable causes.

I guess I'm a bit taken aback by your seeming lack of interest in a violation of Indiana Code by an official. Just because you or others didn't know about it doesn't reduce its status as a violation.

It's amazing how these things become an issue at election time. You would think if someone had something to bitch about, they would have done it 2 years ago when the company started. Nothing like "mud slinging" when your back's against the wall!! Politically motivated...Sure does sound like it!! Desperate people take desperate actions. Something tells me Vanmor is current on the license or Duke wouldn't have hired them...just a guess.

Maybe someone should let the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) know that Duke has been doing business with an unlicensed company. They might frown on that sort of behavior.

If I read the statute correctly, violating the licensing requirement is actually a criminal misdemeanor offense.

Okay. So what happens when the re-elected Sheriff gets charged with a criminal offense for this illegal security thing?

Ahh, looks like the state is about to step in and make things mighty uncomfortable and costly.
