Carrie Holiman was my teacher in both 4th and 5th grade. I am fortunate to have had her for two years. She inspired me and many others to pursue a career in teaching. Ms. Holiman had such a passion for literature and the arts. I will never forget her reading Island of the Blue Dolphins aloud to the class. As she read each line, crisply and carefully, the images were clear. She was kind and compassionate, patient and understanding. She was my first bilingual teacher, so the fact that she spoke my home language bridged the gap between home and school. My heart hurts for those who knew her and those students who were robbed of experiencing her classroom this school year. Her favorite flower was the carnation, beautiful as Ms. Holiman.

Ok, Mr. Ramsey, I did not vote for you because I was tired of the "good ol boy administration". Please, restore my faith in you and the D.A. office. End this punks life like he ended Carrie's. He has had pass trouble with DUI and hurting people, he is a waste case, he is lying about what happened. Go to town Mr. Ramsey and make the judge see he is worthless to society.

Dude, They did a test on him and he failed.
If he can't do things like walk a straight line etc then he is stoned. Don't try to sugar coat this and act like pot is ok to drive on.
my god people are so stuck on stupid when it comes to weed. To sit here and say its not a factor in driving is such crap you need your head looked at.

The shoulder on that section of road is about 6' wide. Inevitable that someone would try to blame it on her. His attorney will undoubtedly try to do the same, but it appears the evidence doesn't support this argument.

Not saying he wasn't stoned or anything like that BUT, if I had just hit and killed somebody with my car I am betting I would be so shook up and in shock that I wouldn't be able to walk a straight line.........

Just because you don't drive a nice vehicle and are probably older doesn't mean others can have what you don't have. We have a legal system that will figure things out. Why to pass judgment and make assumptions of others when you don't have the facts? that is really evil

Try to walk and speak straight and act calm when you just had an accident and killed someone...

Uh, not sure what that has to do with what I said about the paved shoulder on that road??? And people on the scene stated that he was, in fact, eerily calm. Shock or the effects of marijuana?
Re: legal determination of recent marijuana use--There are specific physical indicators of marijuana use. Green tongue is just one of them, and yes, smoking marijuana does turn your tongue green, not bright green, but a greenish tint instead of a pinkish one. I have seen it myself and had the use confirmed by the user. Also eyes don't track smoothly when asked to follow a finger without moving your head. This is very noticeable. It takes more than one symptom for an officer to make a determination of the likelihood of recent use. Gross motor coordination is usually not noticeably affected, like with alcohol, though things like concentration and ability to judge speed and distance are measurably affected. The suspected marijuana use may not have been directly responsible for this tragedy but it is an indication of irresponsibility as is the lack of restraint of the dogs and the strong indicators of excessive speed.
People on the scene said the damage done to her was so extensive that it is likely that she did not suffer. She never regained consciousnesses. Small blessing. Article and witnesses also said that the broken glass from the impact was about 4' beyond the fog line. Her body was thrown a measured 100' from the point of impact, requiring a much greater speed than 35mph. So we also know he was either lying or unable to judge his speed. Sadly it is unlikely that this guy will ever do as much good in the world as this outstanding teacher has done. I don't know how I could live with the knowledge that I killed an innocent person. I will be very surprised if this guy has some kind of epiphany and tries to make amends for the good life he has taken. One can always hope, but usually these guys are way too self-absorbed to ever let the enormity of what they have done sink in. Watch for him to lawyer up and try to find some way to blame it on her. Watch, I'll bet his biggest concern will be how this might ruin his life.
Sincerest condolences to her grieving family and the hundreds of students whose lives she touched over her 29 year teaching career.

I have personally known Jimmy for 15 years. All the teachers in school did not like him, he got kicked out sophomore year. Recently he's been doing lots of methadone and his tounge being green could be from liquid methadone. A blood test should show if it was liquid methadone or not. He is also a crazy driver. The last time I saw him was downtown Chico, he was swerving everywhere trying to get my attention while his dog was hanging out the window of his BMW. The dog flew out the window causing traffic to lock there brakes up.
So Ladnick, you already interviewed every teacher that taught in Durham Schools???? WOW! In 24-hours you collected statements from all his former teachers, some of whom have been retired for years and live outside the country??? Job well done Ladnick!!! I especially like the part about the methadone, so keen of you. Are you a scientist also????

Previous DUI, driving stoned, killing people. Time to lock him up and don't let him out. Make him pay every dollar he earns in prison to the devastated family. If he's free, he'll do it again.

Deepest condolences go out to victims family and friends. I pray for victims kin. A good life was lost for a punk driving like he did every day for years. It is an absolute a shame she lost her life. Throw the books at him! Id be first one at courthouse supporting harshest punishments! Nothing can bring this woman life back. Please bring justice
well blood test doesn't lie....

There is a lot of traffic tickets some guy with the same name has got over the years and something about having pot.. anyone can look that up on the butte court website..

but I agree this wasn't a simple dog jumped on my lap deal. 4 feet+ off the road is nuts. then she going 100ft is going more than 35. I know because I been hit at 40 and I went 15ft. I really hope some people will open their eyes and see you shouldn't drive messed up on ANYTHING.

He had to go into the shoulder then past the fog line then into the dirt then 4 more ft?. So thats a total of what 6 to 8 ft he moved over to hit her?
I fully understand stupid **** people who ride or walk in the road and don't look etc.. but this lady was no where near it.
