Why have 3 different grades of gas?

Most everyone I know including me can only afford regular. There are the more expensive grades; premium and super.

Is there something special about these more expensive grades except that they contain a little more detergent than regular?

There would probably be less expensive regular if these two grades were eliminated.

Wow, Ya gotta be glad we never drilled in that part of ANWR set aside for drilling or in the Gulf off the coast of Florida. We wouldn't want to compete with the Chinese and Cubans down there.

Thank You Harry, Nancy, Hillery, Teddey at al.

Some luxury cars will only take premium. Other than that I don't know.

You are such an idiot. If this was going on with the dems in office you'd blame them as well. Gas prices are beyond the control of our government. It is our own fault. We do not allow full drilling to occur in the US. We have not allowed the oil companies to build new refineries. We have not forced our auto manufacturers to produce fuel efficient vehicles. You want to know who to blame? Look in the mirror and all around you, that is who to blame.

None of the politicians care about us because none of the pay for their gas, we do. All of them are rich anyway so $4.00 a gallon doesn't even have an impact on them. I can hear them saying "let them eat cake" like Thurston Howell III. Maybe they (President and congress) can't simply control oil/gas prices but they can put pressure on OPEC and threaten to buy our oil from Russia instead or threaten to pull all of our troops out of Saudi. We alson need to start drilling in the US. We also need to keep pushing towards getting away from fossil fuels but in the mean time we must do something. Just imagine how the gas a food prices a impacting the poor.

Why on earth would prices be different if those were eliminated? It's a choice, that's all. Do you not like choices.

I just knew it was my fault that Exxon-Mobil had such a record profit.

There is absolutely nothing the politicians can do about the price of oil unless they can flood the world market with the product. Unfortunately, the US is not in a position to do that. All this talk about forcing OPEC to do this or do that or pass legislation is just a waste of time. The only things we may be able to do is maybe 1) increase the level of production of gas and hopefully, that will increase supply over here 2) drill more. China has a really high appetite for oil these days too and if we do not buy, they will. Tough situation but it is what it is. Maybe if we enhanced mass transit systems here, it may help...and before we start to blame OPEC, we need to realize that everyone is in this game to protect their interests not every one else's...why would OPEC institute policies that will crash the price of their product and reduce their profits? I wouldn't if I was in their position so I do not expect them to.

Exxon-Mobil had record profit partly because the price of oil went up which gives more profits from the same volume of crude and for the same production costs (they have sharing agreements with most governments they work with around the world) and also because the demand for gas and diesel has gone up over the years. The margin really has not changed much from the source.

If you are so intelligent, why do you throw names out? Call ME an idiot.....? Um, Mr or Ms Texan, I am not attacking Republicans OR Democrats, pal, read closer: I said the man in the White House (who, uh, is an Oil Man, um, bud, um, you get me) and hmmmm., fuel is outrageous...... Oh, hell, you can't be serious!

So, Sir Texas, you have all the answers, tell us, besides blaming all the vehicle driving people, what's the real deal behind the fuel prices? How can the oil companies post record profits and not make money? How is the gas price so high and profits are high........

We are all idiots, remember, bub, so set us all straight.

The price went from 2.28 gal last year to 3.30 now and soon to 4.00 seems like a nice round number donít it, I wonder how everyone knows this, perhaps a target they want to go too. If gas went up one third in price in one year then I guess it means the demand went up that much? NOT. The apologist for big oil have 100 excuses for high prices: Take your pick. 1) Hugo Chavez 2) Weather problems 3) Yearly refinery fire 4) Summer blends, 5) Sinking dollar 6) SUVĒS 7) They wont let us build more refineries, I bet Mexico would love some near the border, even with their national oil, it would brings 100ís of jobs and fees, 8) Iraq 9) Iran 10) Middle east turmoil 11) OPEC 12) We cant drill here there or anywhere 13) India 14) China By the way we move our jobs over to these countries so their standard of living goes up and we have to pay more for oil, how stupid are we? Check out known reserves and you will that there is more than enough oil, the problem is due to a corrupt congress, President, Vice President, and oil company CEOís that would sell their own kids into prostitution for money. Oil companies are ECONOMIC TERRORIST that are bringing down the entire economy here and over there. When congress does an inquiry into anything that means you folks we are looking at better send more money and now.
