We've all heard about the Union Haunting House... but what about other places in Franklin County that are alleged to be active?

Any stories anyone would like to share?

Elijah McClain's....it an old mansion on the riverfront. It belonged to Elijah himself and he was a early settler in Washington, Mo. At one time it was a very nice place to eat and gather with friends at the bar. A friend of mine use to work there and told me many many strange stories about the place. I had personal experiances myself in this beatiful old house. I am not even sure if the place is still standing, if it is i would love to investigate with a paranormal team. If anyone knows more information then what i wrote please let me know and thank you.

Ivana let me know if you are able to contact the owner and ask to do a paranormal investigation. I have had my share of witnessing things happen mostly in friends homes and at mcclains like i mentioned. I have never been on a pro. ghost hunt but i think i could be some help because i tend to have a pretty good sixth sence. I wish i knew though who the owner is now or if they are open minded to this stuff.

There is an old OLD abandoned hotel off of Robertsville Rd..I am sensitive to the feelings..and everytime i drive by..Damn do I want to go in there. I was told by some old timers that it was a hotel/ flop house/bar for black people. Like a Jazz/blues place. IDk but I do know there is something there that almost calls to you when you go by. I would love to go there if you check it out!!!

Ivana - contact Steven LaChance, Paranormal Task Force, or Dan "Spookstalker" on FB, they might be able to help you out on Missouri locations.

I know about that hotel on Robertsville Rd, having grown up near there. I remember seeing someone there on occasion in the early 80s, but I think around the 83 floods, it was abandoned for one reason or another. I know they put up the flood gates right around that time, so when the river is up, you can't get to that southern part of RV+Brinkmann roads.

There's also Morse Mill Hotel, which used to allow investigations, but I'm not sure if they still do. I did a group investigation there one night with Steve and Jacqui (shortly after they shot the MORSE MILL PROJECT with Dan), and the only power available was from a generator in a van outside. We were getting hits ALL OVER the place, from random whispers in the basement kitchen, to doors moving, and Steve rolled a musket ball down a hall twice. The first time, it rolled down the hall and wound up in a side room, the other time, we didn't hear anything roll back and the first step he took, he stepped on it. Busiest place seems to be the top floor. I have about an hour of footage of us communicating with at least one spirit, and we also experienced a creeping pitch up there in the dark rooms.(one guy was drained by this and had to be helped downstairs.)

Then, of course, there is Zombie Rd, part of which is accessible by a bike trail, but the police keep an eye out for ANYONE there after 9pm/dark and fine you heavily, esp around Hallowe'en. Someone associated with it has a FB page and organized a hike the first wkd of June, but then cancelled about two weeks prior.

Other than that, just throw a dart at random and you're sure to find someplace. I know of at least three other places haunted in Union besides the "Screaming House", all within walking distance of it.

Springfield has Pythian Castle, and PTF had something recently down near Salem? I'm sure we'l start hearing about Joplin, soon enough.

the place is still there but in bad disrepair thru the window you can still see a wine rack and dining room tables with chairs stacked on top. The inside still looks good from what you can see. Would love to hear some of the strange occurrences.

I'm from WashMO and worked at Elijah McLean's around 1996 as a bartender. The owner's at the time were Taylor and Kiki Strecker. I believe the restaurant/bar is closed, but I doubt the place is in disrepair. It's a beautiful mansion. I have firsthand knowledge of paranormal activity there as well as the coworkers I worked with at the time.

When i was in McLeans for the first time that is when i had my first encounter. After dinner i and my husband asked if we could go upstairs and look at the rooms. After the hostess told us we could go check it out since it was banquet rooms and my first time in the place we were more then welcome to go upstairs. When we were standing in one of the doorways i suddenly got ice cold and felt like someone was standing right behind me. I mean every fiber in my body was freezing. I had an overwhelming sence to "get out" and that is exactly what i did. I was downstairs before my husband made it down and he could not understand why i was freaked out. Another time i was there for a Christmas party, i went into the foyer to use the phone at the hostess desk. The entire time i was on the phone i felt like someone or something was "watching me" and again i had an overwhelming feeling to get out of that area. One other time while i was dining with a neighbor i all of a sudden got very cold and so did my neighbor friend and i started to feel a bit funny. I am sorry to hear that the place is no longer as grand looking. When it was in buisness it was just a beautiful old mansion and the view of the river was awesome. Such a shame, still would love to investigate the place. When i am in washington again i will try to go by and take a look but almost hate to see it now.

I can throw a rock and hit the mansion from my front porch. I don't think it's so much the house that is haunted as much as the property in general. I have seen a woman in white walk rift threw my front door and vanish right in front of me. Undoubtably the house is haunted but the land surrounding the house is as well.

Just moved out of house in Washington, Mo. Lived there 10 days, lost $3000 moving in and out in short time. Never believed in Ghosts, DO NOW! Didnt see her, only heard things she was moving. Owners mother died in there less than a year ago, found out as I was moving in and already invested money. I always believed there is a Heaven and Hell, never really believed in Ghost, still dont understand what they are, I only know I want no part of it. Dont wish to disclose house or my identity.

I am a 20 year resident of washington and a member of a small paranormal group. My understanding is the owners of elijah mcclains divorced and moved across county. The home is empty now but it appears they are doing some work on the residence. The home is up for sale but is being handeled by a private law firm. The owners are not open to any investigations for fear it will hurt the sale of the property. I would think it might create some interest since it has been empty for years. I dirve past elijah's often and have even parked in the parking lot and taken pictures of the home and grounds trying to catch something. I have gotten some strange orbs and some light anomalies, It is truely one of those places that calls out to you.

I agree with you Ghost Seekers, the once beautiful riverfront home draws people to it. I wish they were more open to let people investigate, i know there is something going on at the place as i have stated on this page earlier. You have me curious about those pictures, do you have a websit for your paranormal group? If i had the money for the old place i would buy it myself, fix it up and i would rent it out for weddings, company parties, and other celebrations. I will keep on trying to win in the lottery lol.

after Tri-County was featured on "Fact or Faked" this past summer, the Paranormal Task Force was allowed a handful of nights with free reign of the place. I'm not sure who owns it at the moment, but it is mostly cleared out, with a few exceptions.

Unfortunately, someone broke in between 10/27 and 11/10 and shattered a glass display case, and the glass on another display case and the glass doors on the old telephone booths. There are few leads, but if you hear anything about this, please let the Sheriff's Dept know! They do keep an eye on the place, but apparently missed this happening.

(and one deputy claims he was parked across the road and saw the blue ghost in the foyer right before the PTF investigations?)

oh, and Ivana? pretty sneaky. I didn't realize who you were until after our original posts. ;)

Is there any news on McClain's??? Is it sold or torn down now??? Next time i go to Washington i am going to go by the place and take some pictures. Last time i went by (that was awhile ago) it was still there and not sold yet. Did not have my camera on me either. I know of three ghosts in the house, a man, woman and child (possibly a boy). Was McClain married and did he have a child or children. I am pretty sure the man is McClain himself and he likes to look out the windows at the river.

I live directly by mcclains. Literally within feet. I have had so many friends tell me of weird feelings and people they have seen in my apartment. I personally have only had one weird thing happen... My daughters books that make sounds would choose random days and times to go off. We moved the book to the living room (furthest from mcclains) and it didn't go off anymore. Numerous friends said they were scared to death of my apartment.... But i love it. :) never any negative problems if there is a ghost :)

I doubt this structure will never be removed. I believe it is protected by the State Historic Society. Rand and Stafford Streets which border the property was the name of Elijah's two wives.
