I keep hearing this statement from Christians..."Homosexual marriage is ruining the sanctity of marriage...," or something to that effect.

I don't know exactly what they mean by sanctity so, I will refer to the Bible for clarification.

I find that Jesus didn't sanctify marriage by getting married himself, even though as a Rabbi, he was expected to marry long before the age at which he was crucified...What would Jesus Do? Die Single.

Adam and Eve, the first two humans in Judaism and Christianity were not married, so they were living in sin from the get go and had children out of wedlock.

Abraham, father of monotheism, pimped his wife out many times telling her, "Say that you are my sister..."

Lot, having just lost his wife, had sex with both his virgin daughters.

All the married disciples left their wives to follow Jesus.

One of the first sins forgiven by Jesus was adultery...

Ezra ordered mass divorces upon his return from Babylon.

King David had the husband of the woman he wanted killed, so he could marry her.

King Solomon had more wives then he had hours in the day.

Abraham made a child with his wife's servant.

God himself picked a married woman to impregnate in his master plan.

Where is the sanctity of marriage in the Bible?

To whom shall we look for guidance for marriage? Christians? Jews?

I don't think we have to worry about same sex marriage ruining the sanctity of marriage, Jews and Christians took care of that thousands of years ago...

Thanks for reading...

You don't have to be an athiest to understand that people who love each other so much that there is a deep life-enhancing permanent bond between them should be allowed to be married so long as they are old enough to make such a decision. Marriage is evidently something the state requires a license for, but it exists without government intervention first. People marrying each other ... that's really nobody else's business unless the couple decides to share the fact with others. If the government must get involved, then it's time for the government to make this hassle free regardless of the sex of the partners in love.

If you choose to follow a religion that declares such unions a sin, then you are free to believe that too, but realize that what other people do in this realm is not harmful to you in any way and plainly none of your business.
