I want to move my child out of Lithia Springs High School. So far my search has come up with 2 options a transfer to Chapel Hill High via House Bill 251 or Private school. My preference would be that she is picked to go to Chapel Hill next year but its lottery and a whole thing involved. So just in case that donít happen I have been looking into private schools. I have found 3.

Harvester Christian Academy
Heirway Christian Academy
Kings Way Christian School

I visited 1 school off the list so far and plan to visit the other 2 very soon. But I want the opinion of parents or maybe students who attended the schools. Even if you know of anyone who went to one of the above schools please share their experience.

@Blue Vase

Thank You

Do you have children that attend or do you know of anyone that do? What was their experience like?

If your child is denied a transfer, appeal to Dr. Pritx. He approved my friends child transfer no questions asked.

I've heard great things about Harvester and know one of the board members.

Why are you wanting to transfer your child? Haven't things improved at Lithia due to the grant they received?

Money canít change the communication between teachers and parents and administrators and teachers. Like most schools now a days Lithia only want to communicate with the parents who children are doing poorly and causing problems. There just isn't any time for children who do well or parents that care about their children education. Thatís why more and more Iím starting to think private school may be the best option for me. My children attended private school when we lived in NYC. I think I may have gotten a little spoiled from that experience.

Landmark and Arlington are in Fairburn - you may want to check them out too - they have transportation to our county available. I know a couple of families that go to Landmark and they are pleased with it. Coincidentally, both families are districted for Lithia...

There are magnet opportunities at Douglas County High School (International Baccalaureate) and New Manchester (Fine Arts; Visual, Music, Voice, Dance, Theater)

Landmark and Arlington are way better than Harvester. I wouldn't recommend it.

Isn't Arlington having some financial problems? I will look into Landmark. Why wouldn't you recommend Harvester?

I know I can't agree more at this point. Public schools only want to focus on the kids that have problems. If your child isn't getting bad grades or disrupting the whole class then you a push to the back of the line.

Landmark is a good choice, but it's pretty far away from dville. You should stick to somewhere closer.

Lanmark is a good school for sure and I would chose them over Harvestor. I have many of friends that have left Harvestor and actually put their children in public school.

I'm not sure why people keep posting about teachers and schools only being concerned with the bad kids! I have 3 children, all 3 are different for sure and they all have been taken care of in the public school system! School is what the parents, kids and administrations make it. It is NOT the schools responsibility to make sure your child is doing what they are supposed to do in class or home it is the parent and children! Parent portal is a wonderful tool and it helps the parents to see the grades that their children are making!

Before you ask, NO I am not a teacher. I am just a parent that has been wonderfully pleased with public school system and saved thousands of dollars to have for college for my children! My oldest got college scholarships and my middle child has received 90% college scholarship and he is graduating this year! Guess what that is a lot of hard work on his part and his school. My youngest hates school but doesn't get in trouble or make really bad grades. All of their teachers have always been involved and contacted us.

All Douglas county schools are failing so it doesn't really matter it is up to you. I have always believed that school is what you make of it. You put in the hard work that it takes to get ahead and you will be happy with it!

Good luck in your search, I hope that whatever you choose you will be happy.

Please....Douglas County's schools stink. My sons go to South Douglas Elementary and even though it is supposedly the better of the elementary schools, it to has plenty of problems. To get your child into a good teachers class you either have to "be somebody".... somebody with pull/influence or be a stay at home mother who spends her days at the school helping out. The after school program only seems to employee the teachers teenage children, a couple of which seem to be lumps on a log, imbeciles. My sons came home the other day saying that there was a dog in the coaches office barking. I said, no, thought he was making it up....until he said the dog was a puppy named T.K. and was brown. Said the dog has been there a long time. The principal has no clue what is going on in the place or there wouldn't be a dog in the gym.

Well I'm sorry for your experience Douglas County Mother! Maybe you need to move out of the county then since that isn't a good experience for you! Maybe you should get a little more involved and let the principal know what is going on.
I'm sorry that you feel that way but I have had 1 graduate from Douglas County school system, one about to graduate, and then a 7th grader. I am happy with my experience in the school system.

Like I said in my explanation it is what you make it and I'm not a stay at home mother nor am I someone with influence that got my children in better classes as you put it.

I hope that all works out for everyone and that the decisions that are made are good for the child and parent. Good luck on your search.

So sorry you don't like Douglas County schools. Did you see the Sentinel today? While not all schools in the county did stellar quite a few did outstanding!!

Mirror Lake received a score of 98.6, Brighten Academy a 95.2, Holly Springs a 94.3,Winston a 93.9, South Douglas a 93.5 and Mason Creek an 86.8 to best the stateís elementary school average. On the middle school level, Chapel Hill scored a 93.5, Fairplay a 92.1 and Brighten Academy a 91.4.

You can read the entire article at

I'm quite proud of the Mirror Lake numbers!!! It is not so surprising that Brighten isn't the top (at least I'm not surprised!) But then again that's another thread.:) Lord knows I don't want to start that here! HA!

I donít think Douglas County schools suck. I think all public schools have been on a downward decline for some years now. Too much time being spent on behavior issues. I feel unless your child is in danger of failing or donít have behavior problems you are push to the back of the line. As for parent portal it only gets updated when a progress report is due. If thatís the case I can just wait for the progress report. This one size fits all way of education in this country needs to stop. Children need to be separated by ability and behavior.
