My grandparents moved to Fullerville, Just in time for my daddy Claudis Ray Barber. To begin his very first year of school at the one room school. that was located there in the village in Fullerville.Preveosly while living in Marietta, My daddy had gone to kindergarten there. In the new school all the Barber children made fast friends,That would remain lifetime friends. While Dan and Odessa worked in the mill,The children were in school. The family loved their brand new home,Located in front of the mill. They were the first of our family to move to the village of Fullerville. w io at . mmy

My mothers family lived near Union school. Her parents were Felton Almos Campbell and Beulah Starr Campbell.Mother attended the old Union school. It now serves as a masonic lodge of which my uncles were members. As soon as mother was old enough she moved to Fullerville,There she boarded with Mrs Cole,She went to work in the mill,And it was there thet she met my Daddy. From what ive been told,They fell in love at first sight,Thus began the lives of Mozelle Campbell Barber and Claudis Ray Barber,They were together untill death parted them. ckc

My young parents,They were so very happy and made so many friends.Got to know their neighbors. My daddy was a super good carpenter,And he was called upon many times to help the neighbors with repairs. In fact my mother was the first young woman to have a sink in her kitchen.Oh but every one who asked my daddy to install one for them, they soon also had a kitchen sink.Daddy installed an outdoor shower at our house,The intire neighborhood used it,Especially in the summertime. It was clean and private,A very cool and refreshing place especially on hot days.

My parent had an active social life in Fullerville.Their best friends were Curt and Esma Sauls. These were the very best, most humble couple,And like my parents,Were so very much loved in the village. After working all week in the mill,They were all ready for some fun on the weekends.Mostly in the summertime,These folks along with other friends and some family members would all meet at different swimming holes and lakes arround Carrol and Paulding. For a fun day of swimming and pinicking. Most Of them were strong swimmers,And it was a great stress releaver After a week working in the cotton mill.

We had our own government in Fullerville. My parents and others liked that.and voted to keep Fullerville separate. I really dont know why they felt that way,I would imagine it was a since of independance.A matter of pride to have their own little village. My family was involved in the Fullerville government,My Daddy served as councilman. And grandpa Dan was mayor. This was in the early days,I was not born yet.I do remember even after i was born,Hearing front porch talk about them keeping Fullerville its own little city.

Many social gattherings were held on those front porches.Sometimes revival services were held on varous porches. My mother remembered lots of singing, shouting, and preaching going on out there.Lots of preachers came from Fullerville.Guy Rainwater, who went on to Eastside church in Atlanta. This was Aunt Pearls son and she was so proud of him.also Carl and Ralph Tapley both being great friends of my family.Charles williams was a dear sweet friend in our family.Sometimes i think perhalps there was a great annointing there,Fullerville sure was a safe haven for all of us kids who came allong.Fullerville was a great place to grow up. in.

My greatgrandfather was George W Barber. For many years he was minister at Zion church in Paulding County. My daddy was very close to him,And after My mother and daddy married,Many times Grandpa George came to Fullerville for visits. He must have been a unique character, and full of fun.He spent lots of time with the younger set of Barbers, and often my parents took him to the movies.Every time the movie changed my parents were there at the theater,Along with the others in the village. This was the favorite pastime.

I have lots of cute stories about Ray,My mother told me this one. When the time come for the first day of school,Ray was dressed and ready to go,He was only five years old,There was not a bus from Fullerville to the school,So there was only one way to get to school, walk.My aunt Jewell and other family members would walk Ray toward the school,He would run back home and beat family members back home. Finally my uncle Clarance and aunt Jewell made the decision to let Ray wait untill the next school year and then send him,He would be older and more ready for school. It proved to work out great and the following year,He went to first grade gladly.

WE are nearing Easter time,And my thoughts return To a simple and happy Easter of long ago.Our Grandparents,Odessa Dukes Barber. And Daniel Richard Barber were the very best. They loved Ray,Sue and I so totally and completely,Every day we were shown unconditional love from them.Grandpa Dan especially got a big kick out of celebrating holidays with the three of us.On the year when Ray turned thirteen we all got Easter baskets. Ray said, pa im to big for an Easter basket.I was told this by Mother,I beeing the youngest,I dont remember Ray telling Grandpa Dan that. But I will never forget those hollidays with the precous Grandparents. We were surely blessed with our Grandparents. orn

My Mother and Daddy were very neighborly,Doing any and everything they could to help out their friends and neighbors.Once a small boy stopped to say hello,My Mother thought he needed a haircut.Allthough my parents were skilled in many areas,Cutting hair was not one of them.So they put a bowl on the boys head,And chop chop went the scizors,Apparently they did an o.k.job.Because my Mother told me no one ever complained about the fact that they saw fit to give their child a haircut.

Once my parents had a squabble,And My Daddy suddenly disapeared. My Mother started investagating,Because during the night she heard noises coming from the attic. So she called my Uncle Clarence and asked if he could come over and help her find Daddy,Our family highly respected our dear Uncle Clearence, with him being the oldest brother. My Daddys nickname was Fate.So Uncle Clarence called out,Fate are you up there?Sure enough he answered,And came down quickly,Because he knew he was in trouble,When Uncle Clarence had to come and investagate. So my parents made up,And all was well once again.

One night long before I was born,While Grandpa Dan was mayor out in Fullerville My parents were told that someone was planing to shoot Grandpa Dan.Apparently this person dissagreed with a decision Grandpa Dan had made.Or maybe the person just did not like Grandpa Dan. He never worried about very much,And this did not worry him either. After listening to what they had to say,He just scruged it all of and said, Oh hello im tired and im going to bed.I never heard Grandpa Dan cuss,He allways would use the word hello instead,Obviouly this was just a rumur,But Grandpa Dan was not at all worried. In fact I beleave that is why he allmost lived to be a hundred years old.He said worrying was a pack of foolishness.

Grandma Odessa was very intuitive,I think becauce of her heritage being part Irish and part Cherokke Indian. On the night of Ray Barbers birth,She allong with some other family members.Just celibrateing the birth of her first grandchild. Were out walking. When she saw a shooting star and declared,This ends our Barber generation. This proved to be the truth. All other Grandchildren were girls.

Grandpa George W Barber married Becky, and then more children were added My aunt Lillie was one of her children,Grandpa Dan and Aunt Lillie Dukes were very close,He loved to visit her and Uncle Wesley Dukes. He was my Grandma Odessas brother. Also Grandpa Dan loved to go to South Georgia, Where There was some more of his famiy. And he had a good friend Bennett Bullock. He stayed close to him.Even after i came along and grew up I drove him on visits,My Grandpa Dan lived a long life. And was a blessing to all who knew him and especially me.

I was just a little girl maybe three years old when Grandpa Dan got the first T.V. in the village. What a big dissapointment,I was allready carried to the movies regularly,I was used to a very big screen. We had been so excited about the delivery,All the family had gathered around to see this great invention. If we had a magnifying glass maybe,I could never have been prepared for this.I mean we had waited and waited for this day,And Grandpa was so proud,I think he mostly was thinking of us grandkids when he ordered it.I never complained,But let me tell you it was only 6inches by 7inches Eventually the screens were bigger. And after a while allmost every house in the village had a t.v.

I was thinking about the barber shop across the road from Rays house. My Mother had told me this long ago,Ray got to go in there regularly and take a bath,My dear Aunt Jewell,Rays mother was allways the little mother hen.So when Ray came our of the barber all squeky clean,Aunt Jewell would ask him did you wash your ears, back, and other anatamy that I cant spell out here. There are so many cute stories about Ray I think my parents loved him just like a son.He was so precous allways,And I surely do miss his sweet presence,Our loss,Heavens gain.

I just saw my Aunt Jewell Wilkins today,And went to church with her,She is 95 years old now.She was Grandpa Dan and Grandma Odessas only daughter. All the rest of their children were boys,My Uncle Clarence being the first born,Then Uncle Lovie,Aunt Jewell and my Daddy being the baby,Claudis. This allways was a small family,My Uncle Clarense and aunt Jewell had only one child Ray.My Aunt Jewell and Uncle Bill having only one child Sue.And my parents only having me,I think because they had their families following the great depression,And world war 2 just ending right before I was born. These reasons must have affected their choise to only have one child each. Whatever the reason our family is and has been small. My aunt Jewell is the only member of the orginal family of Dan and Odessa who survives. My aunt Jewell is very special and I am very thankfull that we still have her here with us.

My parents allways made friends with the neighbors.During their early years Sarah and Janet lived across the road,My daddy worked nights for a period of time.My mother and those girls would hide behind a tree in sheets,And then jump out trying to scare him,I think Mother said it worked, and then they kept trying to scare him,After a while he would be expecting them to be there. And they all just laughed.
