It was a disappointment, to say the least. Check out West Ga Idol. It is much more professional and they select judges that KNOW music and what to listen for and are able to give meaningful feedback. There were only 2 people qualified to judge ..Max and the lady at the end of the table..and all the rest were useless. If Cedartown decides to continue with the competition, take a look at Hogansville, GA competition. Have at least one or two judges that are vocal coaches and no more than one judge should be from Cedartown. Participants that work for your main sponsors should not be allowed to participate...standard rules for all contest. I just hate it that the young lady that received 1st place, she seemed like a sweet girl and of no fault of her own, becomes a part of this drama. Her parents and sponsors should have foreseen the problems that would arise from this event. Also, if you want to be "NW GA IDOL" and want other counties to be included, the audience vote should be eliminated!! Totally not fair for those who live out of the county. All should not be lost! I hope the people in charge will take all the comments and really look at them and use them to make a better contest for next year. Their definitely is a need for local aspiring artist to showcase their talent. One more comment..direct copy from paper: "She scored high points with the judges for her song choice, receiving a combined 9.01 score for “originality”— more than any other competitor." WHAT does that mean?? She sang musicals each time ...it wasn't like she sang Pop or country then stepped out of her comfort zone and performed a song from a Broadway show. Sounds like someone is just grasping for straws to justify the outcome. Too bad ...a lot of volunteers worked very hard to make this event happen.
