Is the 25 minute lunch period adequate for students? My son has 1st lunch, and has to come from upstairs in the 9th grade building. He and his fellow classmates are the last to get there and the lines are stacked. Once he gets his food, he then has to hunt for a place to sit. After all of this, he is left with little time to eat, and most days elects not to. I agree that students can't socialize while trying to eat, but if you think about the walk, the lines and seating, you pretty much have to swallow without chewing. Could adding 5 minutes to the lunch be that difficult? Or expanding the lunch room?

Actually, the lunch times have increased. Last year, there were 4 19 minute lunch periods. This year, there are three lunch periods. Carrollton High runs on the block system and lunch is 34 minutes. That is definitely the best way to run a school, but I understand that Carroll County can't afford that model. Dumb, huh?

Actually, like the other poster said, they increased the lunch time this year because the cafeteria was expanded. It really is difficult to make lunch longer, they would have to extend the school day and then deal with the busses. Twenty five minutes really isn't enough but it's better than 19.
Of yeah, talk to Chris Gammon about it, that will work. LOL. He'll just smile and do nothing. He's a nice guy but he won't do anything to rock the boat. But maybe if you go to the board meetings in mass numbers and complain, something might happen. But don't fuss when they extend the school day. Better yet, go and complain and tell them you'll take your kids to Carrollton or Bremen, they just might listen them. But you have to get a group together.

Exactly, 15 minutes to make sure the kids are fed so that they may concentrate better makes sense to me. As for the buses, they run late to the high schools anyway.

Well villa rica dad, GO TO THE BOARD MEETINGS AND VOICE YOUR OPINIONS! They are also having a meeting in October at Bay Springs, go there and voice your concerns. Of course, if they add 15 minutes onto the school day parents will complain but if MORE complain about the lunch then they will win. If you don't MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD then they won't do anything. Get a group together and say something at EVERY board meeting until they do what you want. And don't forget to threaten to pull your kids out of county schools, they hate that. Both Carrollton and Bremen have 30 minute lunches, maybe even 35 minutes.

Guess its changed a lot. VRHS used to have a 30 minute lunch in the 80s and a 15 minute break where students could go buy snacks from the vending area in the Gym (and some kids could sneak cigarettes on the side of the gym) and Bremen also had a 30 minute lunch and a 15 minute break about 10 am. If the student finished their lunch alot of times they would allow the students to go outside in front of the school to the tables to associate.

They don't want it to change. Seen the students at VR lately? They are allowed to eat, use telephones, wear pants below their butts, show cleavage, wear inappropriate shirts, wear caps, disrespect teachers, throw gang signs, curse at the top of their lungs, there is no tardy policy, and teachers and administrators watch this and do nothing. Don't believe me? Go have a look yourself.

Little brats need some structure. 10 minutes for lunch is all they need.
