AT 10:30 am, on 9/10/13, Our 9 year-old boy was bitten at the Deerlick Dog Park.
The owner of the dog who bit our son fled through the woods with the dog, while refusing to surrender her address, phone or any identifying information. We do not know if this dog has rabies; therefore, my son will have to undergo a series of rabies shots, unless we find the dog in the next few days. It’s bad enough that he has to suffer from the bite and the whole experience, but it would be unforgivable if he had to needlessly undergo the trauma of the series of shots.
Here is the description of the dog:
All black, muscular, short-haired, 1 ½ to 2 years old, about 35lbs., long snout, believed to be female, newly adopted, deep bark, red collar with bits of yellow, about 24 to 30 inches tall. May answer to 'Lulu'. It jumps very well. It looked like a Pit Bull, but with a longer nose, straight tail. She was with another smaller black dog with curly fur.
Here is a description of the owner:
Female, about 250 lbs., 5’2” to 5’5” tall, reddish-brown hair, mid-40’s, glasses, gray shirt with bluish black shorts.

Please contact me if you have any information at [email protected]

Thank you,

Have you contacted the Animal Control office? Report the bite, they can help locate the dog and the owner. Second if the dog was recently adopted they may very well have records, take pictures and document everything that has happened. Keep all your records including any medical treatments.
Good luck and let me know if there is anything I can do to help!

Mugsy:
We talked to Animal Control on Saturday and Today. I also filed a report at the Sherriff's Office, and with Deerlick Park. I have been hanging out at the Park whenever I have time to talk to people. When AC is open tomorrow, I'm going to see what they've found. I've left an email at DCTV23, and the Sentinel; and contacted WSB, but have had not had much support from any of the above; although they could be doing things I just can't see. It's been three days since he's been bitten, so he has four days left before my son will have to take his shots. Thanks for your offer. If you can help at all, it's to go to the Dog Park and see if you know anybody who knows the woman and her dog(s) I've described. I really appreciate your support.

Time Traveler, really? You should be ashamed....
Thank you for telling me that I typed an incorrect date, and I'm glad someone is paying attention. I would have appreciated your telling me straight up about the mistake, and not making a joke of the situation.
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FUNNY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SON!

Curious--same as what I said to Time Traveler. Please, if you can't contribute in a positive manner, leave this post. This is serious.

Jake, right, well, when you have a 9yo mauled by a dog bleeding and screaming, and two of your dogs still in your possession--all you think about, if you're a decent parent, is the protection of your child. This dog charged my son a number of times; however, my husband warded the dog off in two subsuquent attempts at further harm to my son. My son has 6 puncture wounds. My husband did chase this woman down as much as he could, but he also kept in mind that his son was bleeding, and in need of medical attention. My husband was the only one there to protect our son, and this woman thought only of herself when she was fleeing.

I just hope & pray that you find this woman & at the very least find out about the dog. No child should have to suffer through those shots. Wishing you the best of luck.

Tallapoosa mom: Thank you. I am praying my hardest and working my hardest to find the woman. Time is melting away...we've got 'til Friday and I'm starting to feel frantic! Support from good people like you, though, calms and centers me, and motivates me to keep working hard.

I met with animal control today, and my husband and son are going to see if they can identify the dog. I had an interview with Channel 2 Action News today, with Mr. Willis. It should air at 5pm. I am so grateful that Mr. Willis picked up on this through the DC Sherriff's Report. Maybe somebody will be able to idetify the woman who owns the dog. I'm praying still : ).

She will probably not be at the park anytime soon. There are several things you can do...post notices around, someone knows this woman and/or her dogs. I saw the report on Facebook through the Sheriffs department. She will probably either a) get rid of the dog by putting it at a friends house or b) keep the dog inside until she thinks thing have cooled off. From experience I will tell you to do a lot of the work yourself, don't think anyone else is doing it, become the squeaky wheel.

I am sorry your son is going through this I know how traumatic this can be.

I truly hope they find this pos...she needs to be in jail.I agree that she will not go back to the park anytime soon if she has any sense whatsoever. But you never know. Meantime, get that info out everywhere. No child should have to go through that because some pos is too ignorant to do the right thing.. Sad part is, she probably ran because her dog isnt up to date on shots.

Thanks for your support on this. Days ago, I laminated a poster I made, and hung it on the Dog Park fence. I also filed reports at Deerlick Park, the Sherriff's office and Animal Control. When I took my son to the hospital, I heard the nurse report it to the Shariff's office, too. I have absolutely been the squeaky wheel, and boy, have I had some horrifying moments dealing with the County Agecies--for now, though, I'm focusing on finding the dog. You are so right, Mugsy, nobody is doing the work but me--I'm even having to triple-check with these agencies--triple the work! I feel like I had a breakthrough when Carl Willis of Channel 2 Action News spoke with me today--finally, somebody is listening--thank you channel 2! Thank you, my friends for your prayers and help. We've had many calls of encouragement and support.

Thank you, Mugsy. I did an Open Records Search to obtain video footage from the Park, and to obtain information from DC Animal Control about some suspect dogs. The tape was of only one camera. There are more in the park. We didn't turn up anything except our car leaving the park--so at least we know the exact time it happened. My husband came up with 4 suspect dogs from the records search. I called one owner, and deterimined it wasn't his dog. One dog was adopted by a rescue shelter, so I'm still chasing that lead, and the other owners had disconnected numbers. I think I'm meeting with Amanda Thomas of the Sentinal in the near future.

As of now, it's looking like he's going to need his Rabies series of shots because we don't have any solid leads; but I am leaving no stone unturned, and have committed every waking moment to finding this dog--even with the loss of income....I'm still praying for my family and for the poor lost soul who walked away that day.

I am going to assume that you did not find this lady and that your son is having to go through the shots. You will probably run into her again at the park about 6 months or more, but keep your eyes peeled you never know, she apparently lives in the area since you saw no car leaving.

My heart goes out to you and I wish you luck!
