November 2, 2013:
Early morning, a deadly crash which involved a speed bike. The bike was traveling south bound on La Grange Rd near the I-55 exit. The bike was not completely wrecked. However, the driver was laying on the side of the northbound lanes of La Grange Rd near the I-55 north bound entrance. A white blanket covered the deceased speed bike driver.

I'm not a nervous person but I too road past this and was very upset with the image of a body laying on the ground under a white sheet and the police off on the side talking as if it was nothing. Quite disturbing I think they could have concealed the body in a more respectful way.

I too passed this tragic scene.. The body was laying on the grass, covered with white sheet. No one was with him.Fire and police talking at a good distance away ignoring the body, like it was the same as his damaged bike. I think more honor and respect needed to be shown, and very surprised supervisors didn't step in and put a barrier around the body. I went back over an hour later. Same scene, body there, everyone ignoring it. Im having a hard time getting image of poor man all alone out there. If I could, I would have sat on the grass and kept him company until transport would arrive. I'm going to look for this man's funeral service, and I want to assure this family that hundreds of us all felt the same way, and we all cried and prayed for him, and he was then not alone. I'm from a CPD family, and this didn't feel right. This was somebody's son or Dad.

I mentioned it to my wife earlier in the afternoon after I had returned from work. She already knew. Earlier (around 8:30 AM), she drove by there while taking two of my daughters to the doctor's office. When she drove by there the first time, the driver's head was not yet covered by the white blanket. He was wearing a helmet. While she was returning home (9:40 AM), he was completely covered. She was disturbed by the sight to discuss it with me at home. When I drove by, it was 2 hours after my wife first seen what occurred.

Like all of you, I could not stop thinking of the image and the man's family. It doesn't appear as if the family as immediately notified since he was laying there for a long time. I noticed a white sheet covering something from far away, while I was driving on La Grange Rd heading to I-55. I was hoping it was not a body, but as I passed by, it became easily noticeable that someone was covered. How sad. God Bless his surviving family.

I saw the same :(. I guess the police are used to this? I don't know, it's all very sad. Does anyone know what happened? I've been looking for an accident report or something, but this board is all I've found.

Thoughts and prayers with the driver.

the police did do what they could do under the circumstances. albeit disturbing to have the young man under sheets for everyone to see. the investigator had to arrive at the scene before anything, even a piece of debris, could be touched. hodgkins, willow springs, and pleasant dale police/paramedics/firemen were in response immediately. a screen to surround the young man's body would probably have been appropriate so that others would not have been able to view the scene. this tragic accident was preventable. if you are a rider, especially unexperienced, please remember to respect the road. cold weather, damp roads, are not conditions to travel at 100+mph. being a rider myself, it was very sad and difficult to have to experience this tragedy. may God hold him and his family in His hands during this most difficult time.

Pete, how did it happened? Was it the road condition (slippery) or did someone bump his back wheel?
