Maybe SBCUSD wouldn't have so many dropouts if the district actually did something when neighbors call and report a student not attending school. It is amazing that students can miss over 80 days of school and the district can only manage to fill out meaningless paperwork, set up meetings that parents don't bother to attend or just ignore the problem completely. School districts need to work with local law officials and prosecute parents. Throwing them in jail, or better yet, get their welfare cut.

school should not be forced. I helped several post teens gain thier G.E.D. The reason that they droped out was because of fear. Why should a good student go to school to face gang members and troublemakers which are fored to be there.

I didn't know the numbers but I have known this intuitively. If you take a good look around even at the teen and young adult problems we have had the past year or so...

Our kids are losing hope. The standards have been set to high for some with no alternate solution such as technical/job/career training. With no alternatives the only option for those who are struggling is despair. I've seen it in my district where I work. I've seen it where I live in the local crime reports etc...

No Child Left Behind is Another Failed Policy that needs to be fixed right away. We need to have alternative options for our kids to learn skills if they are not able to make the college track. It's the right thing to do.

It's about time we got real data to see so that we can talk about real solutions to the problem that need to be immediately implimented instead of continuing the fairy tail that every child will make it with the current level of standards. I'm glad to see this joke has been exposed.
