Oh great, just what we need, more retail stores. What planet do these people live on? Does anybody really believe that the economy, which is 70% consumer based, is coming back in the next year or the next 10 years?....We don't need more retail stores, we need less. We need to unwind the debt that we have, and actually produce some thing, it boggles my mind to see people happy because they have an LL Bean Visa card. I bet they're in debt up to their eyeballs. It's pathetic...I predict these stores will be out of business in 2 years max....

I agree. Adding two "high-tiered" stores to Eastview does not necessarily mean the recession is ending, but that coupled with the fact that mall sales are way down certainly does indicate that the gap between the "haves" and the "have-nots" is getting wider.

WHO did you check on the Medley Centre status WITH? WHAT are they negotiating? I thought all the deals were in place already. Or, do you mean they are negotiating with contractors? More info, please!

Forget Medley Centre. That's never going to happen. Congel (sic) just put a stop on Carousel expansion in Syracuse...not tenents and bank said no to more $$. No $$ for flops.

So I checked out Anthropologie online. $178 for a pair of jeans. I don't think so. Ugly is ugly whether it's $5 or $500 and I'll bet it's all made in China.

Oh, and for anybody who has issues with the landfill down in Flint? Yeah, you might want to boycott Eastview Mall. They and their tenants are one the most wasteful enterprises around. You have NO IDEA what those stores are throwing out. New stuff. They could sell it on clearace or donate it, but they don't. Toxic stuff like electronics and batteries. Clothing? A lot of it gets shredded or destroyed so you keep paying high prices to offset their waste and loss write offs. Believe me, I've seen it all. Think before you waste the gas to go there for ANYTHING.

Harris just let 77 folks go...Gannett is reducing their workforce by 1,400. This is after Kodak's reductions. Nationwide 1 out of 6 folks (16.5%)who are able to work are unemployed. If this is an ecomonic turn around, I'd hate to see a decline...

That's the point I made in my earlier post. Mall sales are down 7%, but they are *adding* two stores that sell only high-end goods, and the news story quotes people from Fairport who are "excited" about it. Yet there are other news stories telling us about the serious layoffs that you mentioned. Doesn't make sense, unless you take the political spin off the story. Then you find that, n truth, it's just more evidence of the widening gap between the rich and the poor.

I've been there twice since I moved here, and both times I had to be dragged there, kicking and screaming.

Didn't know about the landfill, but I am not surprised by corporate waste... sickened, but not surprised.

And they are only a few of the long list of local companies that have/are laying off. One local company that makes parts for those Wind Turbines has laid off also and wasn't this an area where this so called stimulus was directed at??

All I can say is start tilling you yard, plant some crops and can the stuff because it's going to be a long cold winter and a few years as well!

Also these stores know people are not going to be able to afford to travel, so the money will be spent locally instead so they just are here for the short term profit, not the recovery!

you better realize that technology is reducing the work force faster than decline in economics...(note the difference in my economics) as to your version ..the majority of the general populace is and are trying to live beyond their means ..

not to mention the general greed of the work force who wants more and they produce less..

If he does, he will at least be showing some sympathy for the common man.

Unlike Dubya, who bled us dry and started this whole mess in the first place.

That may be true in Pittsford, Fairport, Mendon, Brighton, etc., but there are some of us who don't care to keep up with the Jones (or the Rockefellers) or anyone else.

I hope you paid up and canceled all your credit cards before you posted, or else you are just part of the problem.

P.S. I have NONE.

What is helping the most to reduce the work force in the US is the outsourcing to low cost (read no cost) countries like China and India. Every time you buy something from the sweatshops in those countries, you help someone here loose their job. Boycott the lousy China and India made goods - it may save your job...and maybe your life, the way they keep putting lead and poison in the goods they export.

Not at all. I just don't want to add to the financial disaster by spending money I don't have.

And you don't have to "over extend" to contribute to the problem. Every month you carry over a balance, regardless of whether you make regular, timely payments, you are living behond your means and adding to the fiscal problem.

It's not just clothing and toys. When you buy some electronic gadget with tech support located offshore you are taking jobs away from Americans.

You can say this about overspending of money you don't have and on the same page blame Bush! This is what Obama is doing, Sure Bush spent too much, But His Spending has Already been shadowed by the Obama spending and there is more to come!
