Let me understand. Because one neighbor was vindictive, then you generalize about a community. This example makes no sense in supporting your premise.
It only illustrates that in the Town of Pittsford resides a curmudgeon who was annoyed because you blocked an area, and felt reporting it was the right thing to do.
It's unfortunate you received a citation, but to condemn at entire Town for one unfortunate incident isn't credible.
I'm sure you would agree, now that's it has been rationally explained to you. We are a very kind and caring community. You could have parked for free in the Town lots (just watch out for the rouge town snowplows in the winter).
I here your point too. It's valid.I'm just giving you example of one experience I had. I have found many people from Pittsford to be unfriendly.I experience it a lot at Pittsford plaza. A place I will admit is awesome and a benefit to the whole area. When I go there though I often walk past people who can't even give a hello back, they just look the other way.I don't expect you to apologize for your families success, anyone who does is an a-hole. I'm just a little sick of people who think there is nothing wrong with anyone there. They probably don't, they probably just don't realize they're coming off that way sometimes. I get tired of people thinking I must be envious of them because I don't live there. I don't want to live in any suburb because to me, my dislike of city life would be the same as suburban life. I like the rural life. If I'm going to live in Monroe county I'm going to live where my family has lived for generations.I like the connection. My family I have here is getting older and I don't have many years left with them. After they are gone there wont be anything at all worth me staying here.Too many regulations and taxes in the city and the burbs for me without enough of the great outdoors I love.

Seriously and the lifestyle really is not much different than an urban lifestyle. The town is nice but the regulation would be stifling.

Again, it's one attitude, not multiple attitudes. One person complained, now suddenly the entire town is out of control snobby or vindictive or nosy. You folks love to generalize about stuff.

Hey, a white fellow in NYC mugged me for my wallet when I was in college, but I don't think all white men are criminals, or have an agenda. You folks need to expand your tiny view on society.

He's commenting on the asinine law that was being enforced, not the neighbor. The law is dumb and would only be supported by nosy people who want to control others. There was people making generalizations about us who still live in the city. Is that fair?Shure the city is going down hill.Well some of it is,most of it already has. There are a some good people left here to though and we are trying our damnedest to stop what we can. That does not make us jealous of you. As you have admittedly think.

I also know about the attitudes of suburbanites and as well as people in the city. No one's perfect, and there are certainly no saints. That's why I cringe with certain posters on here that really look down on city life and the residents. We're all people, but society separates us.
I agree. My husband and I got an education, and ended up in Pittsford. I don't feel excluded as a minority. People in Pittsford don't care about your ethnicity, as long as you're smart. Some posters just don't understand, and never will.

I agree I find the suburbs to be the worst assets of the city and the sticks without the benefits of either. It's just ruined farmland and forest to me.

You know P.W. I don't think our views are really that far apart in reality. I'm kind of thinking this is one of those misunderstandings that happen when people communicate in broken typed speech instead of real conversation. It's sometimes difficult to express completely one's true point on these things.

Funny, I was think that might be the case. Doubtful you and I are that much different philosophically. I have to tell you, however, that people on Topix like, well I won't name names, sound like raving and depraved lunatics.

I thought this forum might be interesting, but it turns out that nothing substantive is on the agenda, just racial barbs from both sides. To my mind, that's pretty dull and uninspired.

I think some of these people are still in the '50s south mindset. Minorities are not permitted to be successful, and certainly not allowed to live in an upper-middle enclave like Pittsford. I'm amazed and very disappointed. Hopefully it is a tiny subset, and not representative of Rochester society.

Some are and some come across that way because of what I said before. A lot of it is reactionary towards each other based on post from other people. Kind of like our little misunderstanding. It's part of the nature of the beast. It happens to all of us, but it's hard for some to admit to.That's part of human nature. It contributes a lot to the problem's.Good luck in life breaking the box people think you should fit in.

Not a problem in real life, just on Topix. Reality is dramatically different, and fortunately, much better. Have yet to run into a racist in Pittsford (resident for 9 years), they're too busy doing other constructive things.

TO be honest in my opinion. There is probably a lot of racist in Pittsford who would not show it to someone they meet in public. That's kind of what I'm getting at with the coward comment. They are the worst kind of bigots too.

Thanks for your reply. I I am done with Topix... it was an experiment, and it is really not for me. I'll leave all the haters to congregate in one area, and spend every day bashing each other (and they seem to been on 24/7 - does anybody work?).

Life is too short, and it's not appealing to spend it trying to amp up the last post with more hate and insults.

Good bye and thanks, FTW.

Holy crap. Resurrects a long dead thread to bash Pittsford with no facts, just speculation. What a moron.

I'm from Pittsford, haven't lived there all of my life but enough to see both sides of this argument.I've also lived in henrietta and in the city. First of all, noone can honestly say pittsford is a perfect place to live, just like noone can say any other place is the perfect place to live. I personally don't say I'm from pittsford when people ask, I say I'm from rochester and then if they ask specifically I'll tell them. However, that doesn't mean I'm ashamed to be from there, I just hate the stereotypes and stigma that come along with the town. Yes, a SMALL portion of people in the town act in the way many people in this blog are saying. There are stuck up rich snobs who have nothing better to do with their time then to buy whatever they want and complain about the colors of peoples houses. However, alot of the residents are not like that at all. We had a problem a few years back where I left a ladder leaning against the front of our house for a couple days because I was doing work on the gutters. On the third day I went to get the mail and found an anonymous letter asking me to take the ladder down because it looked bad. However, every year when we took our boat out of the water and had to clean and unpack it to be ready for storage, we'd keep it not even in our driveway, but on the street in front of our house for a couple weeks, and we never had neighbors complain. There are always going to be people who have nothing better to do then try and make everyone think like them, but that isn't everyone from pittsford, and it sure isn't the majority of them. In regards to ticketing and such, there are more strick rules in the village, which is actually a completely separate zip code and place then the rest of the community, and yes a lot of those people have lived there for years and may not be able to get out of the rich mindset. And as for the plaza, most the individuals at the plaza actually aren't even Pittsford Residents. A good amount sure, but both sides of monroe are filled with people from all over, and there are going to be nasty individuals no matter where you go. Growing up there was fine, but in response to the person who said there isn't bullying and such, thats not true. There were definetly standards that if you didn't dress or look a certain way you were judged, however I found it to be more how you carried yourself. If you dressed "different" but you were nice and didn't try to act like this rebellious person who hated everyone, then there really wasn't a problem. People can judge pittsford all they want, but honestly its no different from other places adn their stereotypes. I'm sure people from Webster don't appreciate when they hear people calling them trashy, but it has the stereotype because of the small portion of people who decide to live that way. Don't judge until you've lived there and have met more then a small amount of people, it's not fair to the rest of us who actually just needed a good education and want to live life just like everyone else.
