Great, it doesn't cost "you" that much because the state and the federal government pay for 70% of the expense. Cool, but wait, where does "their" money come from??? Sounds really economical.

I was in California a few years ago, thier bills are through the roof, they were having Brown outs! I went throu a very large Wind Turbine Area, Many were not running, others were in repair. The reason I was told the other were not running, Too Much power in the System! And they are having Brown outs and Costly Electric rates!

What will happen is The Regulators or the Government will find a way to make excuses up for Taxes and Fees and bring those Rates up so there will be no difference except you will be once again getting screwed byt the Governments! NY And the Federeal Government!

Yeah thats a great idea we all will have our own wind turbine paid for by the government. That sound completely feasible.

'Govt. picks up half the bill' annually of building & paying for their expensive power.

Terrible propagandistic journalism here. Just switch 'govt' with 'Taxpayers of WNY',
-and see the true terrible cost of these uneconomic political boondoggles.

These things are much of the reason NYers pays the highest electricity bills in the entire nation!

Yeah, works great as long as taxpayers keep shoveling $$$ at them every year.

Turn our lovely Fingerlakes into heavily subsidized Industrial sites.
(with blinking red lights all night)

Yup, kill the tourism & retirement destinations that is about the only 'bright spot' in WNY's economy.

And suck the RGE/NYSEG payers & taxpayers dry,
to line the utility's pockets.(mainly foreign owned).

Please ask Ms. Rudd (the author) to do some more research. She's doing us a great injustice.
We don't buy this rag to read 'BS''fluff' stories.
For that, we can watch Patterson or Massa.

Bang up job Nikki Rudd. You really did your research. Did you even get out of the car for this story. Why don't you take a ride down to the Prattsburg / Naples NY area and check out all of those beautiful wind mills dotting the hillside. Do the following

1. Do a couple of interviews with the people that live near them, but are not on their property.

2. Ask why most of them are not spinning on a windy day.

3. Ask the manufacturer's about the patent lawsuits on the gearing systems that has kept them from moving.

4. Find out the true cost of wind power based on the tax costs to the average sap taxpayer.

5. Ask why you cannot see the wind mills from any high end cottages on the finger lakes.

If a few obese people stop eating so much, maybe we could cut our energy needs by 30 percent.

Are you a reporter or an advertiser for Tax-Me-If-You-Can ? And yes, I own a high priced cottage and I love the fact that we are so politically connected that we can truly be NIMBY's.(Wegmans, Golisano, Reedman, Kasacus, Dorchel, Hooker, Sykes, etc)

What I find odd is that people are worried about the aestetics of the wind turbines. That's funny, since there's already telephone and utility poles littering the landscape. No one has a problem with that......but a small wind turbine, NO WAY! lol. idiots.

RochesterRoy, Are you done crying??

New, developing technology is expensive and needs to be subsidized to become economical. Look at the hydropower on the Niagara River. Do you think that wasn't subsidized? It's been providing dirt-cheap power for many factories (and just recently yahoo) for many years. Look how many jobs it has created.

I know you will say its not the same, but wind power is developing. The more that sell, the more economical they become. You will also see more money put back into it to develop new technology, making them better and less of an eye sore.

Most agree they while they may not be the total solution, they are surely part of it. Clean, renewable power is the goal and with that we must be willing to except a little change.

Amen -- pretend to do your job, here, hun!!

Also, I think these wind turbines are a GREAT idea... my aunt and uncle installed one at thier home and RG&E actually pays THEM monthly to use their power. Love it!

Subsidies are only a diversion, Nothing is Cheap because we all are paying higher taxes to pay for those subsidies!

Then you should be all for them because this part of the state has long been subsidizing NY City and the surrounding area for decades and you still can't make things cheap excpt for Property Tax rates, cause their cheaper there than they are in this neck of the woods by a long shot, and if you don't believenit, Look it up> Keywords Highest Property Taxes in NY State!
