I avoid traveling down this street at certain times of day for precisely the reasons set forth in the article. While those who live in the neighborhood are harmed the worst - it's downright frightening at times just to drive through. I go out of my way to avoid it.
There IS a significant police presence. They are trying very hard to clean this up - but until the absentee landlords, residents and FAMILIES of these young people change things - the situation won't change.
The ubiquitous "where are their parents" comes to mind. We can't, nor should we, blame the police. It's up to the families of these people.

I do agree with this article in some ways. although i belive that the people complaining should move. This is these peoples way of life. they may not like yours as you dont like theirs. As stated in the article, nbot everyone on that street is really breaking any laws. therefore not much can be done about it. complaining isnt really going to do much. I do not live on that street or in that area but i do pass through it often, daily, to go to friends and relatives homes. I know many people on that street and also in the area. They are not at all bad people. I wish they could be understood. I belive that the person who wrote that article should spend a day there and take time to meet the people that reside there. they will be greatly surprised. I live in a nice neighborhood in lockport. It is labeled as a "rich white" neighborhood by some, i find worse people in my neighborhood.

really? a rich white neighborhood, IN LOCKPORT!? Give me a break, you do not, as it doesnt exist. unless you are living in granchellis place, and granchellis house is right by the highschool, nobody wants to live right accross from the highschool, well, other than the people in this article.
I cant belive you would say these people should move if the dont like it! what guff you have.
foot traffic, crime and "violators" are growing, impeding onto their streets! They SHOULD be up in arms, IT MAKES THEM FEEL UNSAFE,and this scum is moving in and its going to lower their property values.
This IS their street, they OWN their home, they PAY taxes on this land, not to mention the taxes they pay so these dirtbag landlords can get a check each month too.
The people living on genesee could really learn something from these homeowners, its called respect. Respect for their property, their neighborhood, and the over well being of their community.

I agree with what is stated in the article. I live on Washington Street in Lockport between Hawley and Transit. That is one of the better streets but it is not far from drug addicts, drug houses, gangs, etc. I don't feel safe walking down certain parts of Washington Street during the day either. There are many drug addicts who roam the street and produce issues for the neighbors and quite frankly many of the local residents are indeed sick of it. There are kids who walk around and spray paint telephone poles, throw personal property around, throw garbage in peoples' gardens, and other things. My own family witnesses these occurrences and it is ridiculous. I agree that things need to be done about the declination of residential safety, however, it cannot be done at the cost of the local Police Department. I think that the Neighborhood Watch should be regrouped to help eradicate the neighborhood disturbances.
