I thought this preachers response seemed a little CREEPY and discouraged molestation victims from coming forward. What are your thoughts about his response to a question asking if molestation victims of church leaders should come forward??

I compiled the comments:

QUESTION POSED TO MINISTER:
“What is your opinion about pedophiles who masquerade as youth ministers and pastors? Do you think these pedophiles should take responsibility for their actions? Do you feel that someone who has been abused by one of these pedophile youth ministers should speak up and tell what happened to them?”

RESPONSE BY THE PREACHER
Anyone who masquerades as anything (particularly a pedophile) will not hold the illusion long. In the ministry such a person will have a history that will betray them in short order. The pedophile is a victim of habit as well as disease and can not stop molesting in spite of himself or herself. Parents usually catch the disorder by the behavior of the child and an investigation follows. After two or three moves withing the denomination word spreads that this is possible.
The person in question almost always has a history of dark and strange attraction to children and cannot resist the spirit of darkness. Generally these cases are uncovered in three of four years. In cases where there is no continued behavior it is rarely pedophilia, it case be a case of obsession, lapse of common sense or just plain stupidity that leads to random or individual contact with a child. In either case, a true pedophile is dangerous.
If the parents notify the authorities then process begins. I have told my children if anyone (I said even me) ever touches you or makes you feel physically uncomfortable go immediately to your mom and tell her. Period, she will tell me and we will know what to do. If their mom did they were to tell me. Too often it goes unreported for years and then it becomes a ugly mess of "he said, she said" everybody gets hurt and there is no way to prove anything.
If it is ten years or longer past then the statute of limitations has past and all that is accomplished is very hurt feelings all around. Suspicion is cast on the accused, and having no way to prove it did not happen is all to real. Suspicion is cast on the accuser because of the amount of time that has passed in reporting the event. In cases where there is no evidence one way or the other it is a matter of interest. If in fact a pedophile is pretending to be a youth worker or any other then the parent must come forward and call for procedure and process. We have serious background checks in our denomination to see if there are any doubts, suspicions or claims of such behavior concerning all workers with youth - nursery, Jr. Highs, Senior Highs and youth ministers and senior pastors as well. This is a very serious issue in our churches and where children are concerned we are vigilant in watching for the signs, signals and symptoms of this disorder.
My video was more intended for the persons who have told a friend a secret and that friend has gone straight out and blabbed it all over town. The seriousness of your question hits home. I have come close to this accusation once years ago. And it broke my heart. I thought about it night and day for two years, could not sleep or eat without getting sick. I quit wearing my ties with the children on it because it reminded me that someone thought that I would do something like that in my daily life.
I have never forgotten that period and I have since been more careful who we hire in the churches I serve. I am heart stricken by all reports of molestation in any church or denomination - more so when it is revealed that it has been known, reported and ignored for years. Such charges are made from time to time and I realize how easy it is for someone to stand accused with no recourse. The minister at the church I served on the coast was accused of child molestation and it was very, very ugly. He was devastated as was the congregation. No proof or evidence was every presented except a day care worker simply saw the child sitting on his lap in the office of the church. Probably nothing happened, but a child sitting in the preacher's lap is not permitted these days. I won't even talk to one in my office with the doors open. It is too easy to have an accusation made, and impossible to defend against it. It is horrible when its true, worse when it is not. But if there is one lurking in your church, go tell the minister, who will inform the board, who will take proper action to see that this behavior stops.

It would have been faster to do a video to address this. But I take time to answer every question if possible. Thank you for asking. I hope it was just an inquiry. Thanks for watching and taking the time to write.
