Right on the money. Did u know a few years ago that Sinbad the comedian when he was here two years ago, cracked jokes about Pemberton Mall? He did. But I agree that this town is boring. Also add uncreative. Becouse a few here are mumbling about alternate energy. Also I like Madison over Vicksburg. And this town lack of leadership hasn't gotten itself anywhere. You're not alone over the hotel issue either. A lot residents are irked by this hotel overbuilding going on.

It seems like nobody wants to invest in Vicksburg except to build gambling facilities.

How do we fix it? I would love to see Vicksburg as a place people want to check out besides gambling..

I am real worried moving to Vicksburg and seeing how things are in town. My husband has been hired at Grand Gulf in PG after being a contractor for a yr. We want to live together again and are buying a house moving me to Vicksburg. At age 50, there isn't much to look forward to. Casinos aren't my thing. They don't have much to off Senior Citizens at all, not a good place to retire. The hospitals suck, so I am real worried. Only reason we are settling here after living all over is so we can be together again instead of having to live apart and not have any health insurance as we do now with the contractor he works for. I put my faith in God who seems to want us in MS, but its just scarey right now. The housing problems in the US seem to be more minor in the MS area at least.

Take my advice don't come to Vicksburg at all. Your grandkids will not have anything to do. There is no family entertainment just gaming boats. It's over taxed as well; u and your husband would be better off in either Madison or Gluckstatt which are really growing. This town nor county hasn't grown at all.

I left vburg 10 years ago and trust me it was the right thing to do...I get lonely for my family and the quietness but I would die if I moved home. I have considered moving back to the coast or Hattiesburg. Last time I lived in Hburg it was HOPPPIN!!! Florida is beautiful and it is pure paradise. All I had to do was read these posts to remind me why I don't want to move back even if my family is there. Plus Vburg was built and survived on "Old Money" think the old money has died.

As a traveler I love Florida. I've been to Key West,Tampa, and I finally saw Miami. In fact I entered the Burn Notice Sweepstakes to return to Miami. Hattiesburg I can tell has really growned. So has Tuepelo. But Vicksburg has become the sorriest town in the state. Still there isn't nothing for the young people to do. And there is lack of leadership in city hall and county. They get jealous over Madison and the Central part of the state becouse more locals are moving out. The cliques ruined this place.

Nobody wants to invest. I don't understand it. Vicksburg has great appeal. I mean Vicksburg is part of the whole blues genre and nobody wants to embrace that... sad.

This town once had great appeal. I believe the reason no one doesn't want to invest in this port is the fact this town has major issues it hasn't resolved.

I left Vicksburg 18 years ago, and the only reason I returned was to visit my mom who is now deceased. I have traveld extensively over the last 18 years and have come to realize that there is more to life than a small town that tries to have a big town appeal with all the drugs that have infected it. It has been over six years since I last visited; I was bored to tears and couldn't wait to get back to my life in Europe at the time.

I employ everyone who can to take the opportunity to step away from Vicksburg for a moment to see other parts of the world. I promise you that you will realize that there is more to life than a small town that only offers you the opportunity to become the next statistics: pregnant, jailed, on drugs, etc.

Harleygirl I travel alot and I've seen a lot more too. I've been to San Antonio too. Still you have these narrowed minded idiots who talk down about NYC on the local radio show. Here's another thing the local show does since it's not a local who runs it: they belittle the locals who express their point of view in the local paper. That's not talk radio.

I return to Vicksburg often. In the past few years, the physical appeal of the city has certainly improved in terms of the cleanliness. I believe that the current mayor and board of aldermen have done a really good job. However, I remain very concerned about the level of crime, particularly violent crime and burglaries. Drug usage and drug dealing appear to be significant problems. To many parents and neigbors turn a blind eye to illegal activity within the community and blame the police department for the level of crime. I think that it is past time for segments of the Vicksburg community to take ownership of some of the problems and to do something constructive about them. I find it amazing that James Stirgus has steadfastly defended Jones to the point that he never went to view the VHA property confiscated from Jones' home and his most recent statement that Jones had permission to have the materials/supplies in his home. I would love for Mr. Stirgus to provide a rationale for his giving Jones permission to have VHA property stored in a private home. I can't fanthom a reasonable explanation or why it took him five months to say that Jones had permission. Sadly, Mr. Stirgus might be more involved in VHA corruption than has been disclosed thus far. So the lack of recreational opportunities of your liking is a more minor concern when considering the challenges Vicksburg is currently facing. Recreational opportunities exist even though for the longest time they did not include a movie theater.

Whenever I travel we stop in Vicksburg, Ms. Back in 60's Vicksburg had nothing but a hole in the wall. Look at Vicksburg today and all the beauty around. If it had not been for the Casinos Vicksburg would be like Tallualh, St. Joseph, Rayville and must I go on. Be Thankful and make your home a Happy Home. One more comment Tallualh get yourself together this incidentt about the teacher and assist sex on the school property. TALLUALH YOUR HOME IS NOT HAPPY.

Let me remind some of you that a lot of people voted against gambling and they haven't gotten a fairshake out of it.
